P38A Worrying whine from front end -road speed related

No, foolishly I don’t check The VCU before setting off -although I’m pretty sure I asked the garage (car was rescued when rear diff went) to check it (and I assume they would ?) haven’t checked the diff oil level as it’s only just happened, had it changed a year ago. is there an easy way to...

P38A Worrying whine from front end -road speed related

Hi again, the tales of woe just keep on flowing… Have returned from the lakes and just deposited caravan around storage facility but the poor old girl has developed a slightly alarming ‘whine’ en route. The noise is road-speed related rather than engine speed. Fluid levels that I can check...

P38A EAS fault -idiot has made it worse

When you say ‘ turn on ignition’ do you mean go all the way and actually fire up the Quattro ? Or just key Position 2 to wake up the EAS. -and yes. ‘Vehicle has moved’ was one of the faults !

P38A EAS fault -idiot has made it worse

Seems to be… and she’s holding air -and, while low, we’re not on the bump stops (yet). it *feels* like an electronical problem of some kind. I wonder if it’s in any way related to the ‘Fuse 10’ blown error I’ve been getting since the diff blew itself to bits (and the fuse continuously blows -I...

P38A EAS fault -idiot has made it worse

Hi, It’s been an eventful few weeks and now the RR (98 Gems) has developed an EAS fault. I’m pretty sure it’s a ‘soft’ fault rather than an actual leak as when it threw up its error, I popped it into manual control, and the heights all stayed, if a little wonky. Was ok for a day or two but...

Aye, hopefully the trip to Penrith and a stern talking to might resolve that ! the hitch weight of the American camper is a touch over at 170kg or so but I’ve only blown the one suspension airbag so far !

P38A Help ! Catastrophic failure -ominous metallic clunking from rear

yeah, the drive south was through the odd blizzard and it’s pretty cold, a light dusting on the hills. mot is lovely though, a bit softer than the highlands, but pretty awe-inspiring. I’m Just nervous as I left my nanocom at home…. And she’s complaining of a phantom EAS issue (although all...

P38A Help ! Catastrophic failure -ominous metallic clunking from rear

well, finally managed to get a 4-pin (fitted to the rear of 4.6L) but not from the upullit site… car was stuffed in amongst 14 others, on gravel and sitting on its hubs. there was no way I was going to get that easily (although I did get a bottom windscreen finisher and all the wee clips)...

P38A Help ! Catastrophic failure -ominous metallic clunking from rear

Yeah I mailed them yesterday to ask about it and they said they have forklifts and high stands. I know what I'm likely doing Monday ! -Just hope its not trashed like mine was ! Actually, I wonder if the dying diff / UJ was the source of the clunking from underneath.... One other daft question...

Ashcroft are a good shout -about half the price quoted and a known / refurbished item rather than a pull from a donor. unfortunately they’re closed to Monday and their lead times may be too long

P38A Help ! Catastrophic failure -ominous metallic clunking from rear

Well, the eBay one in Edinburger is gone. I can try and coax the diff from the scrapped one (with no ramp, etc), try a specialist breaker I know of, or call William… it’s either that or £800 + labour for a new one

P38A Help ! Catastrophic failure -ominous metallic clunking from rear

How would I tell if it's a 4-pin ? Its a 2000 4.6 petrol donor car Yes, I have to do it myself apparently. what's the best way to orientate the diff ? -all these questions. might be easier in the long run just to get the axel from the bay and let the garage do the naughty stuff But, will...
