    P38A Soggy, Mouldy, Leaky P38

Arghhh… So i know that the P38 can be notoriously Moist but mine is leaking annoyingly and I’ve mould sprouting in the cabin, headlining, steering wheel and so on. I can deal with a lot but mould gives me the willies. Reading around, common failures are the boot seal and the sunroof. My boot...

Hi, I was stumbling over some parts to try and prevent my old girl becoming an aquarium and I came across this handy page which has some really useful exploded diagrams and part numbers. I thought id pop it here just in case its of use to anyone else ...

P38A Swivel Hub Alignment tool LRT-54-006

Ah, well I replaced both front ABs sensors in the last year one was ok the other was totally stuck and had to be drilled out -the relictor ring was also in a bad way and ended up replacing the half shaft. I’m ‘hoping’ that because everything has been off the car recently, (other than the pesky...

P38A Swivel Hub Alignment tool LRT-54-006

Well I’ve made some progress; I’ve found a 3D printer file for the oil seal locating tool (LRT-54-012) have slightly modified this so that it can take a pvc pipe in the end. The plan then would be to print a disc the same diameter as the hub to check the alignment -although my printer is...

P38A Swivel Hub Alignment tool LRT-54-006

Thanks, I’ll check. I did see the home-made scaff tube and bearing thing which seems interesting -and I saw the pic of Wammers one. I have a pretty heavy-duty C-shaped press but the ball joints look like the may be original to the car -eek

    P38A Front hub removal

thanks, that’s what I thought. I’m guessing that removing the hub nut would allow me to remove the hub, driveshafts, CV’s and so on individually if that’s what I needed (to change a wheel bearing or something) but that for this purpose it’s fine just to pull it out as a whole unit ?

P38A Swivel Hub Alignment tool LRT-54-006

Hi again, I’ve read a lot about hub alignment and oil seal leaks and not touching the collet adjuster. I’Ve also seen that a few hardy souls have made their own version of this £1000 tool on lathes. Sadly I don’t have.a lathe but I do have a 3D printer and wondered whether I could print the...

    P38A Front hub removal

Thanks. it’s the upper and lower ball joints on the swivel hub -but I’m going to change the track rod and drag link at the same time as they’re all showing wear. I’m hoping the drive shafts should come out as they’ve been out recently to have the front diff replaced… famous last words !

    P38A Front hub removal

Hi, apologies if this is another daft question but I’m in need of some guidance. I’ve to remove my front hubs to replace the ball joints and I cannot work out whether I need to take off the big hub nut on the front or can I just remove the four at the back of the hub and pull the whole drive...

P38A V8 (4.6) rattly under acceleration and a bit lacking in ‘oomph’

So 6 nuts, 2 gaskets and 3 studs. Total cost: less than a tenner and some skin off my knuckles but it’s like I’ve got a new engine. Responsive, powerful, eager -and fuel economy up about 20% too. well worth doing.

P38A V8 (4.6) rattly under acceleration and a bit lacking in ‘oomph’

The prize goes to @pete12345. fearing the worst, I was speaking to a really fabulous bunch of guys at GEMM 4x4 in Larbert and they said to bring her along and someone would have a nosey. so next day I did and the exhaust, while ‘patina’d’ was solid except it was blowing at the joint where the...

P38A V8 (4.6) rattly under acceleration and a bit lacking in ‘oomph’

I’m hoping not…. Engine was replaced around 60,000 miles ago… Noticed there are no heat shields on the manifolds but they’re wrapped in some kind of white rope-like material. The exhaust does look Pretty rusted up and has been welded in a few places
