    P38A Tomorrow's shopping list

Hi All, following on from earlier thread about white smoke, I duly set about to remove the offending gasket etc. However, here's tomorrow's shopping list to thwart the stalemate I've hit: Bread Eggs Milk 8mm deep 12-point socket to get the f&^%ing rocker cover bolts out. Can't believe I...

P38A White smoke at start.....every start

I've got to attack the rocker covers too cos the PCV plastic bit in the right hand cover that according to RAVE "just pulls out" very naughtily doesn't. I fear a lot of elbow grease is going to be required over this weekend. Good job it's not a Bank Holiday weekend too.....Doh!

P38A White smoke at start.....every start

Hi Alistair, if you look out of your window and can't see the spire, that'll be my fault. Haven't done a compression test. I've got the inclination, hopefully soon the parts, I've polished the faces of my lump hammer and sharpened all my drills. I'm guessing friday night / saturday will be...

P38A White smoke at start.....every start

Hi all, I fear my 4.0 GEMS might be poorly. Every time I start up I get white smoke. It used to be only first thing in the morning but now it seems to be every time I start up. The 'smoke' clears after a short while until I have to start it again. I'm guessing that all isn't well isn't...

    P38A Dismantling door handles

Just spotted that Marty, I'll get the parts and give that a go....or the tap method....or cry..... :)

    P38A Dismantling door handles

Yeah, that's what I was following but the photos show the parts together or apart, but not HOW to get them apart. Good idea about the tap Wammers, I'll have to see if I have one small enough.

    P38A Dismantling door handles

That's the chap-s Wammers. Now, the engineer in me is screaming at me to sort out my vocabulary, but do you have to 'break' the old ones out/off? The replacements come with a pin and spring but I can't see a way to remove the old ones.

    P38A Dismantling door handles

Hi all, my front door handles are both suffering from the sticks-out-a-bit when closed issue. I've found the associated threads on the cause and remedy for this but have come to a halt because having removed the handle (including removing the pesky clip without breaking anything) but I can't...

    Brake failure

Well I can certainly state that when I had a leak (burst pipe rear left) shortly after the 'Low Brake Fluid' warning, the system that came into operation was a) discover pressing the brake pedal does nothing , at all, ever b) employ left hand to rapidly operate hand brake, and c) deploy...

    P38A R F receiver bypass

Hi, had a similar thing, and still do. I put it down to hitting the 'off' button on my 2nd remote in some way when getting in the car. I've put a pair of plastic rings around the buttons (stuck onto the remote casing with epoxy) so that they aren't so easily operated in error.

P38A Strange noise on start up..

Sorry, GEMS 4.0. Doesn't always do it. Don't think its the starter and yes, perhaps could originate driver's side of the engine bay but hard to tell when you're sat in the seat :-)

P38A Strange noise on start up..

Hi all, every now and again when I start the RR, I hear a noise like a ruler being plucked on the edge of a desk. It only lasts a second or so and then I don't hear it again until the next time it happens. Apologies for the description of the noise, but anyone any ideas what it might be?

    need help

The remote 12V switch trick works a treat! Mine used to go flat every couple of days. Been on 6 months now and not gone flat once.

    P38A Er....ok...

HI all, put the '96, 4.0, LPG'd RR into a tight turn in supermarket car park tonight, no handbrakes or anything, just a nice tight "I'll park there" semi-circle. Don't know why but the radio turned itself off as did the HEVAC lighting and display, and the tablet I have in the dash auto-executed...

    Classic Stereo issue

You could try running a loose pair of speaker wires direct from the head to the speakers (disconnect the ones currently connected to the speakers). That way you'll take any amp out of the system and get a this-is-what-it-sounds-like result direct from the head unit. Also, check all the...
