Is it not possible to drill the casting of the diff in the same place for a filler plug?

Your engine has the early pressure plate. I have no experience of them but think it needs different gear box as fingers will not hit later release bearing. Changing the pressure plate should solve the issue i believe. Hopefully some one else will confirm.

The clutch withdrawl parts are fitted to the gear box so nothing else needed on rear of engine.

Is the top of the trailing shoe chamfered if not it will grab the drum in reverse and make brake bind. As you normally only do low speed in reverse a chamfer is not an issue to breaking efficiency. Try putting some chalk across lining and along edges of lining outer edge fit drum and rotate hub...

Bothers me as well as the oil fitted in the actual roamer drive has no means of being checked and if a seal fails how do you know other than transfer level has gone up. Also common mode of failure is rear gearbox oil seal failure which will allow EP 90 to leak from gearbox into the different oil.

I usually fill to the bottom of threads in the hole then refit the plug my Series 3 has filler plug in that location front and back even though front has a filler on axle case also.

Pretty sure roamer drive needs much higher oil level and different oil than Haynes manual.

Some folks drill it larger and fit remote breather relevant if your going to take it into deep water I ford rivers but never to that depth.

Hole is the vent for gearbox and transfer case. If you look closely under the plate there is a groove cut in transfer case front that is its vent to same place as gearbox.

If your finding steering wanbder get someone to gently rock the steering wheel whilst you look underneath at the steering relay to see if there is any movement in chasis or the arm connections then look at each arm to swivel to make sure the 4 bolts at top of swivel are not loose.

How many leafs in your springs the 11 leaf need longer U bolts than the 9 leaf.
