Nor sure how much help here but the rod on my late model 2a is a cheaper job, just a rod with a 90 degree bend each end held in place by spring clips, not the nice ball sockets of previous models. However rod length not including bent over ends is 8 inches.

Why in the hell would you take out a heater plug or its connection. Strikes me you know little about Defenders. An 1987 truck is not even one. It would be a Land Rover One Ten. Any of that age that have underseal on I would walk away from. Better get someone who knows Landy's to look at it...

Hand held tachometers available for under £20 on Amazon, often used to check the speed of a lathe.

What are your revs at idle? Setting by sound alone will often with a landy result in a too low setting.

I agree with Lynall above, Given you carried on driving with no oil pressure it is likely all the bearings in the engine are Fooked, Mains, Big ends, little ends, Cam shaft and the Turbo bearing. Damage may also extend to the rocker shaft and tappets. Sorry to say but a replacement is probably...

Those are for clipping on trailer brake safety cable. A lightweight cable that should trailer come off the ball hitch pulls its brakes on to stop a runaway [ one hopes ] and then snaps. Not a tow point of any sort. Mine has just one on the right of tow block

Is it far enough left that a foot could work throttle from there? Perhaps both throttle and clutch pedals were linked to some form of home made hand controls at one time for someone with just one leg that worked the brake?

You are correct in your assumption that the bolt shoulder is for belt to swivel on. As for the thing in the footwell.:rolleyes: Does it activate throttle if clutch pressed? Although why escapes me. Clutch looks butchered as well.

Fully agree with @300bhp/ton above, the only time I have seen a tow ball come off [scary stuff in that it flew a hundred yards until it crashed into a tree] was because incorrect undersize bolts had been used. If someone needs a car pulled out of a ditch say and they have lost the tow eye or...

Not sure about about voltage at bulb I have never tried. However if comes on with ignition and goes out with engine running other voltage readings are good.
