What have you done to your Freelander today

So on Saturday I had to rescue my daughter's Corsa using my P38 & A-frame. Got the car home & found she had blown the head gasket quite badly with oil leaking & steam coming out the header tank. Topped up with water, but when starting the engine it fired the water out the tank in large...

    Air suspension problems

When unplugged, the loom side of the connector, will usually only show voltage on the thermal sense wire. This is because with the connector unplugged, the ECU thinks the thermal switch has tripped, therefore the relay will be off. If you're trigger the relay using RSW software, then the PLG...

    Air suspension problems

Exactly. The rear of the connect is simply a rubber seal. Either pull that out or poke some copper wire through where the orange wire goes through. Go to about 1m30secs into this video

    Air suspension problems

As said above, if RSW can run the compressor, then the relay is probably ok. Not sure if RSW checks the thermal switch though, as I cannot see it in my copy. Check the wire is grounded with compressor plug connected rather than unplugged. None of the solenoids operated by the driver pack...

What else on P38 does that TopDon diagnostic cover ? Which diag model is it ?

    Air compressor

@Maxfred If you do decide to go this route, several key points: 1) You should retain the P38 dryer, even though the Merc compressor has one fitted. The P38 exhausts air through the block & dryer, whereas the Merc exhaust goes back through the compressor. Different air paths. 2) You will...

2005 HSE L322 - correct tire pressure for Nokian APT?

RAVE Owners Handbook - NAS Edition says this:

    Air compressor

Looks like this one, and has a bracket with three worn-out rubbers !! I refurbed the pump with kit from X8R, so now it fills a 5L tank on bench in about 45-60 seconds. It does need a 40A relay though.

    Air compressor

It also does not fit in the P38 EAS box, so you would need to create mountings, etc. I tried one on the bench with a 5 litre tank, and they are certainly quieter & better output, but too much faff to install in the car, and I agree the standard pump is perfectly adequate !!

When you get the Unlock Code, make sure you enter it in the correct position. Also they are case sensitive, so pay attention to capitals, etc.

    Air suspension problems

Diaphragm solenoid is 12V, and gets powered by the compressor relay directly. All the others are via the driver pack which provides around 9V to the solenoids. You can apply 12V via the main connector at th front of the EAS block. Never put 12V directly to Exhaust, Inlet or Corner valves.
  18. pwood999

    Air suspension problems

Either diaphragm valve is split, or solenoid not operating. The solenoid is connected to pump 12v so should be on with pump.

FYI the BBS website also says you need the Blue diagnostic lead for EDC, but Green for everything else. What colour connector does yours have ? I find this odd, because EDC pin-7 and both petrol ECU's use pins 7 & 15 on the diagnostic connector ? Therefore Green lead should work. Maybe...
