Could be the ignition module broken, that's the little black box that's either on the side of the distributor or mounted on an alloy bracket and connected to the distributor by a link lead.

^^wot he says^^ Also check for internal corrosion of the main battery cables where they are soldered into the battery clamps, that had me scratching my head for a good few hours once ;)

Even something as simple as reassembling and leaving the washers out on one bolt can do enough to cause a vibration. My old disco had a terrible vibration from the rear and it was two bolts on the rear coupling each missing two washers that was the cause of it.

In future hand him the substitute salt made of ground down laxative tablets ;)
