    Transfer gearbox oil change .

Filling it up is made easier with one of these pumps from halfrauds

What have you done to your Landie today.

Did the second of my front hubs today (did the other one last weekend). Much easier second time around but have got the three amigoes. See this post

    Front hub replacement

The second hub, the nearside one, came off much more smoothly than the first. I managed to get the hub nut undone first time with the 1" breaker bar that the bloke up the road lent me. I heated the hub stake nut first with a propane torch and then gave it a dose of plus gas. I've still got the...

    oil leak

It is indeed the front offside of the engine - the left as you face the engine but still better described as offside. When my alternator oil pipe went there was quite a lot of oil all over the place, when the FPR leaked (yes I've had that one too) it was a slower leak, further back and a...

    Front hub replacement

It is a useful how to - it's here. I'll add a few bits I've picked up doing the job myself once I've done the second hub.

    Front hub replacement

You're right there - a mixture of slightly hacked off and relieved to have identified the problem. The 1" drive socket set did the job for me, I got my replacement hub from JGS. Initially tried with the wheel on but had more success with it removed and someone else putting the brakes hard on...

    Front hub replacement

An update: Just checked the nearside hub bearing - it's clunking just like the offside one was! Time to buy another new hub. Thanks to everyone who's chipped in with help and suggestions.

    Front hub replacement

Yep - 3 amigoes in amber, will be checking nearside hub tomorrow too as well as rechecking the offside one that I did today

    Front hub replacement

They were all OK at the MOT - the noise is "rotational" - i.e. sounds like something graunching as it turns - that's why I wondered if it was the CV joint? - Unless of course I've completely ballsed up installing the new hub

    Front hub replacement

Nope - noise if definitely coming from the front but will double check all four corners tomorrow

    Front hub replacement

Yes, it was the offside that I changed and it seems to be as you turn to the left that the noise happens. I'll need to check again tomorrow more carefully as I was spitting feathers that it hadn't cured the problem.

    Front hub replacement

The offside one definitely needed changing as there was wheel wobble - will check the nearside tomorrow
  15. Headtester

    Front hub replacement

Yes it is noisy on corners, it seems to be as the weight transfers to the offside

    Front hub replacement

Thanks guys - did all that as per Rave. Managed to borrow a 1" drive breaker bar and socket, that along with help from gym fanatic son got the hub nut cracked off. I've swapped the hub over - will update more on the minor challenges later - all was OK on the first trip around the block, than...

    Front hub replacement

This is proving to be difficult! So far I have broken my 20" torque wrench and a 24" breaker bar trying to undo the hub nut!

    Front hub replacement

That makes sense, thanks for clarifying

    Front hub replacement

Thanks, I'm tempted by the set of 4 but don't really need that many gear pullers and the costs are starting to add up so I'll probably just go for a 6" one unless I can find a single 8" one somwhere. Good tip - will do, thanks. That could save me some grief - thank you. It looks as if the hub...
