Eh up. FL1 TD4 2002. Had good results keeping the turbo, intercooler, hoses and air manifold free of oil by diverting the crankcase breather into a bottle. The set up is not ideal as it's a cobbled together affair, roughly fitted to avoid contaminating me new turbo and cleansed intercooler...

It's perhaps a question of; how much time you really wanna spend talking to sales executives? These guys and gals want to size you up on paper before you get a test drive. My tip is... find the place that will bend over on cosmetic repairs. Pick a car and be pernickety with your repair list...

I think things at the stealers have changed a lot since this thread started in 2013. Dealership HQ's employ pricing teams that comb the interwebs looking for vehicles of same age, spec and mileage as their own stock. Then they generate a [marginally] lower price than what they find to generate...

lol :) To be fair, if the manifold is really caked up, the 7 or 8mm hole that feeds into the sensor will be full of crap anyway. Therefore it's not giving a true pressure reading. I think it gets substituted at that stage to keep the engine happy. Do not be tempted to stick anything in the hole...

That's a really neat idea. Improve air flow whilst fooling nosey MOT testers. My only concern with the basic bypass kits is if the tester knows the TD4, they know it's a modified EGR. I believe one can fail an MOT if a visual inspection confirms tampering with emissions reduction measures.

It's nice :) I have to adjust mine regularly as it gets lots of use on the hills here. I just consider it part of the routine FL1 maintenance.

Sensible. It's probably safer than my cautious mind is telling me but it's off the road til I can get new ones sorted. Feels and sounds way too sketchy. The guy I bought the Freelander off has a pair of of used complete struts in "good condition" for forty quid (damper, spring and bearing)...

On the upside, got new discs and pads on the front. N/S was considerably more worn than the O/S thanks to some binding. As far as I can make out, it's a result of those stupid caliper guide pins with the rubber bit on. Fitted standard steel ones. We'll see if we get any imbalance come the MOT.

So.... I'm staring down the cost and faff of replacing my front dampers and/or top mounts after having a tug of war with the O/S drive shaft and strut during the clutch job. The knocking and creaking is too prominent for me to keep driving it without wincing and dealing with my bumhole...

As promised, some comments from me after following this method. Chronicled in my thread here. Took me the entire August bank holiday weekend including Monday (perhaps spent too much time drinking tea :)). At the end of it all, the elements I was able to replicate worked for me. Lack of lifting...
