Mine was fed from one of the outlets from the headlamp stalk. The wiring diagram in the manual confirms it is correct.

Someone on forebay sells a pack of brass adaptors which includes the one you need. Can't find the link. I had a similar thread many years ago. Ended up replacing with a durite gauge and sender about five years ago. Used one of the adapters in the pack above.
