My mistake. No abnormal messages on the dash. Everything looks fairly normal when I turn the key. The sound isn't loud or obtrusive, it's almost like the sound you get when you pull the main lever on a house or shop breaker box but quieter.

She's about 30 miles away so I won't be able to check until later when I go to work. I will see if that is the case.

It got to temp properly, it just overheated after a while all but out of nowhere sometimes. Did just repeat the drive and now it won't start! I may have locked the security system. Trying t figure that out now.

That may have been the brand name but the one on the front of the engine block. I took the hose off and there was a metal gasket there but no thermostat under the housing. I put one in and she ran perfectly!

I think I have it solved! I found out I didn't have the failsafe thermostat. I installed one and it seems fine after a short highway drive. Thanks for all the replies!

What smell should I be looking for? From the reservoir?

@Jamesmartin. I don't see any leaks except for the drips from the reservoir after it overheats. Any tests or checks to see if the block is cracked?

I forgot to mention my check engine light is on , too. Bought a code reader and it says mass air flow sensor and insufficient coolant temp for closed loop fuel control. Are either of those a potential reason for the overheating? Going to check the hoses mentioned earlier and what is a sniff...
