Could be wiring issue either as on my LSE. There is a connecter block beside the ABS unit at the bulkhead(thats where it is on mine) I traced the wires and found a break when I connected it back up the speedo was back working. I have a pdf of the electronic troubleshooting guide for the 93 LSE...

I don't have the one from the engine that came out as I bought it minus engine and box. There is plenty of coolant in the engine, plus I took out the thermostat just to be sure that it wasn't seized shut, to no avail. Off to buy a sensor for a 3.9/4.2 and see what happens.

I think the running temp on both is the same, well from what I can make out from the RAVE cds they both run at 88 degrees. But you could of hit the nail on the head regarding the resistance values I know that it should be x ohms when cold but the rate it increases or decreases which ever suits...
