    Engine number location

I'm trying to find the engine number. The ID tag under the bonnet ( one with chasis number on too) must have fallen off at some point. I'm assuming it must be stamped somewhere else on the engine?? cheers Mark

    Thermostat lies ?

After a year of work, got my series 3 through it's MOT. However, went for first decent drive in it since I bought it and the thermostat seems to be recording a water temp just within the filled in white C area on the guage on the dash. Should it not be in the 'normal' range? New Thermostat...

    Failed MOT

Finally put 1980 SWB sIII in for MOT this morning and it failed on two counts. 1 Brake balance. Apparently front ones weren't engaging properly, 30 % of what they should be. My line of thinking was that I've pushed the shuttle valve out on the dual line system? does this sound reasonable and...

    lightweight braking problem

Just to throw something else into the mix. Have you tried swapping your drums round ? I'd stuck the whole new cylinder / brakes / pipes on my series 3 and still had a brake sticking. until it turned out it was a drum which was slightly out. £15 for a new one and it's done the trick for me.

Fitting new starter motor 2.25 petrol

Took the new starter motor back to paddocks with the original I'd taken out. Turns out I'd been given the wrong one. If any body has a series 3 five bearing engine and need a new starter motor, don't go with the starter coded rtc5225 that the 3 bearings use, you apparently need the same starter...

Not engine though. Anyway took the plunge today and bought brand new starter motor from paddocks...

    Starter motor issues

Went to start landrover tonight, tried it a couple of times and by the third go wouldn't even turnover. nothing, zip, nada. only normally start it up about once a month as I'm working on it at the moment, so had jump leads connected as well. Thinking it will be the starter motor, but is...

Shock absober bottom mount split pin

Having same issue with my series 3. Have bought two large g clamps thinking that maybe could compress the metal ring against the rubber and push the split pin through. hopefully will be able to grip the back of the plate attatched to the shock strut and apply enough pressure to the rubber to...
