Leaking CAV filter - Perkins 4203

To all ye knowledgeable folk - Mounted to the bulkhead in front of drivers side is a CAV tank for the cold start on the perkins 4203......mine's leaking like mad when the engine is running and is actually impacting on the diesel I use. There are 3 outlets on this and a breather mesh on top...

correct size fanbelt - Perkins 4302

Hi again all out there, As I've sad, just swapped a burnt Perk for a working one and so-far all going well. Only problem so far is that the belt seems waaaay to loose - I have the alternator as far over as I can get it on the arm ( it is currently nestled up against the engine mount ) and...

    4WD Yellow knob won't release.

James, Many thanks for your diagnosis - is this a relatively easy fix? or am I taking the unit apart ? amblik

    4WD Yellow knob won't release.

Yes, sorry, have done the low-range/high-range "back n forth" but it's still depressed. As I said, there seems to be no load on the spring, which I'm almost certain there should be ..... otherwise why put it there ? amblik

    4WD Yellow knob won't release.

Hi there, Have just changed over my engine - dead Perkins 4203 for less dead (working) 4203 was was out test driving. I decided to lock up front freewheel hubs to check 4WD and all is good. When I came to disengage 4WD, realized that there is no load on the spring, and it therefore will not...

Perkins 4203 - anyone getting rid of one ?

My 4203 appears to be knackered somehow (although for the life of me no-one can tell me why ). Still turns over without noise. Cannot start and run whilst being towed. Will not fire with Easzi-start. Oil is fine on the dipstick as well as the filler cap, not milky. So I assume there is a...

    transmission fluid leak.

Many thanks for the reply. Once cold, she start, runs and gears and clutch work fine including overdrive. She does heat up ( above N, but never into the red) after a mile or so in top gear, but will still shift down without any effort, till the noise and the eventual stalling. Oil still clear as...

    transmission fluid leak.

So my Series 3 109 had developed what appears to be a leaky transmission. It will start and run fine, but eventually heats up, and as it gets hotter, clatter of syncromesh increases ( either that or it is the valves ???), after which I seem to lose power to the accelerator, and it finally cuts...

What's this going to cost ????

As I'm not familiar with diesel engines whatsoever, other than just turning it over for a while, no, have not done any tests. But having owned several old VW petrol engines that died, the loud clattering of valves and the decompression of the engine coupled with the associated high temps, lend...

What's this going to cost ????

Guess you may be right. Compression failed after a overheating problem, don't think it's the head, but considering I'd only had the vehicle two days, kinda lost my faith in the engine. Perhaps you may bring me round to the idea of repairing it. Am getting a diagnosis this Sunday when RAC come...

What's this going to cost ????

So the Perkins Diesel is dead and I have a feeling too costly to revive. From advice on the forum, to get more power, less noise, etc a 200tdi would be a good option in the 109 SIII. Is this relatively straight forward for a mechanic or are we talking about a project here? As I really need...

Well, ...... I could just cry ! Heeeeelp.

Once again thanks for advice. How easy a fit is the 200tdi engine to fit ? Would I get more poke with a 2.25 petrol - this 109 seems awfully heavy, and it was bloody loud while it was going. Thanks again, sorry if I sounded ungreatful

Well, ...... I could just cry ! Heeeeelp.

Hughesy, Great advice - which diesel you suggest ? I one big truck to pull, and I'd like something with a higher rev zone than the perk'

Well, ...... I could just cry ! Heeeeelp.

OK, so after you've all finished tickling each others dicks, is there anyone with some ACTUAL advice ? I mean, I don't mind watching, but would prefer it if I got included occasionally ! Anyone in North Wiltshire got any advice/help regards my post ? otherwise I'll leave you to your one-handed...

Well, ...... I could just cry ! Heeeeelp.

Folks, having been the proud owner many years back of an 88" SWB 2.5 petrol, I finally ( after a white van or two ) decided that with winters the way they are, I would make a sound choice and get another series landie. I need a little space in the back for timber planking, so I looked for a...

Distraught new owner says hello !

Hello all, I'd far rather be joining a forum with a newly aquired 109 Series III that worked, but hey, perhaps it only had two days in it ! Hoping that the huge resources of knowledge here will help me out amblik
