yeah i would call them and tell them you want the cover, if the person you talk to tells you there is nothing they can do ask to speak to some one higher up, you have paid they should cover you.

ask the bank to withdraw the payment made, we had to before and it was sorted pretty quick, cant remember the reason now but its worth a try. also the bank should have a details of the payment so even if the bank cant do it the insurance company will have to pay it back. good luck rob
