Had the same problem, could not get glass and rubber in together. Laid glass into a bed of silicone sealant in the end. Been fine ever .

Never mind the chassis, check the bits you can't see! Please lift the carpets in boot to check the floor and arches. Body rot can be a killer for 200tdis. Hope it works for you fella

If the tray you mean is the part the window glass sits in, it can be fitted on to the original regulator without removing it. Slides in from the side on to the rollers. It comes with a rubber liner which i found was way too tight. Sat glass on a bed of silicone to cushion and hold- worked fine...
