May sound silly, but start it up and check battery voltage. Any figures under 12 can give a dodgy display. Was happening in mine, and although my alternator isn't putting out as much as it should there was some volt drop in the cables so I connected 1 directly from + of alternator to bat, and...

When cold, take expansion bottle cap off and switch engine on. Leave it running until it gets up to temperature and then put the heaters on full for about 10 mins. Switch it off and replace cap, that should get rid of any air.

I swapped my battery a couple of weeks ago with a brand new one, so I have the old one sitting in the garage. My radio has died and I was thinking about trying to fix it. Would I be able to run it directly off the battery in the garage to test it or would it go bang? Thanks.

Right, tested across the battery this morning and it read 10.0v. Battery is brand new and has only been in about 2 weeks. Started engine up, tested from alternator positive to battery neg, read 12v. Held engine at 2k revs, didn't really make a difference. Switched off car and read battery...

Thanks for tips so far, I will go out and try them all. How can I tell if it is really overheating or not BTW any tips for that? These beasts are unbelievably hard to turn without power steering!

My P38 starting getting problems a couple of weeks back and it all seemed to spiral from replacing the key battery. I decided I could ignore these problems but last night it has finally took its toll on me when it ran me off the road. I am absolutely stuck, I'm sure the problems electrical but...
