OK So here's the next question on this subject Now you've got the prop shaft out, and decide not to put it back (or leave it till a later date) - you now have a rear diff (final drive) with a drive shaft going out each side to the rear wheels. Can you remove the diff (fdu) altogether with...

Freelander 1 What mileage is your Freelander 1 on?

You have to bear in mind that this is Australia - everything is a bit further apart than the UK. I live in Denmark, WA, and think nothing of "nipping" up to Perth - 400Ks. When we moved back here my wife and I drove nearly 4000ks to get here.

Freelander 1 What mileage is your Freelander 1 on?

And it was on 206000 when I bought it 18 months ago, so if I'd owned it all it's life and done the kind of mileage that is normal for me it would be up to 450000 by now.

Freelander 1 What mileage is your Freelander 1 on?

Mine's a '98 XEdi - and it's on 265000ks that's 165000m. Average, but I know another bloke in this small town who has the same model and says his has done 360000. That's 223000 Miles. That'd be up there wouldn't it.

Where'd your freelander take you today

Oldskool - used to know someone with the surname of Anker. When I got to know him a bit better I said to him that it's lucky his parents didn't call him William. He said, "Spare a thought for his younger brother Warren" You must be a distant cousin.... Secondly, I'd rather be driving my...

    VCU and Torsional Damper

All my tools are in a container 400kms away. I had to make do with what I had. That looks big from that angle, but actually none of it sticks out beyond the radius of the outer ring. And, if you look at it directly side on there's plenty of room around it, and it is very tight on there. It's not...

    VCU and Torsional Damper

OK so here's what I did - and this is what is known as "Boer Maak 'n Plan" or literally translated to "Farmer makes a plan" - when you're out there in the middle of knowhere with limited resources you have to think of something. I needed to drive the car straight away. I was nervous about that...

    VCU and Torsional Damper

Chaser - I must assume that by the statement "plenty of people in your situation" that this is fairly common. How long would these suckers be expected to last? If they are interchangeable - and based on Hippo's post above from LRSeries - I can see why some newer ones have ended up with the...

    VCU and Torsional Damper

Thanks Hippo - with the reading I've done in the interim that's the conculsion I came to - that the Rave manual doesn't have the L-Series in it, therefore, doesn't mention it. Mine definitely has one. I looked up price of a new VCU - over AU$500 then postage to Aus. - then I found that I...

    VCU and Torsional Damper

I know this has been mentioned on a few other posts, but I can't find any detail. The Rave manual says only the 1.8 K series has a torsional damper on the VCU. I have a L Series 2L diesel and it definitely has one. Because I was travelling on a badly corrugated road today and all of a sudden...

    L series coolant leak

Just had a similar kind of thing. Felt strange to start with - first noticed it when I got home from a 100k 110kph run (no overheating) - but when went back into the garage to get something a few minutes after getting home I noticed a puddle under the front RH side. Searched high and low but...

    Rear Main Seal TD5 2002

I've done some searching on this and apart from the general feeling that it's a bit of a job, is this one that can be done at home (by 2 fairly competent swearers) and does the engine need pulling to do it?

    fuel consumption

I've had an L-Series '98 for nearly 4 months now and kept very careful fuel and mileage records - mostly country drving around Tasmania and I'm getting around 35mpg or 12.5Kml - varies between 80kph and 120kph - occasionally pulling a a small 4x6 trailer - at 70mph that starts to suck fuel.

    Expansion Tank Hose Outlet

Thanks for that NI I did go scratching around in my shed before you replied thinking "What can I use?" - and guess what I found Diameter of the shaft is the same as the stub that broke off My son and I are just trying to work out how to get it in there. OK - we had a go at it -...

    Expansion Tank Hose Outlet

Hi - been working in the engine bay and snapped off the Expansion Hose Outlet stub off the top of the radiator above the Radiator Top Hose. Snapped the thing clean off with my fat elbow... How can I fix this without replacing the whole radiator? I'm left with a 2mm hole - surely there is...
