So shiny Handed discs. Must get right way around! Wow. No instructions and many you tubes that contradict !! Most say slots sloping to rear of car. Some say slots facing forward to cut into the pad in direction of travel !! Anyone have definitive answer please?

But does it start ok?? I found that over 1V is dropped in the immob module. One of my vehicles has a button feed straight to the starter for cold weather and even when the battery won't operate the starter via the immob, the button does !! Charge old battery and monitor voltage over a few weeks...

Do you get a solenoid click?? Measure cranking voltage. Low voltage can be insufficient to pull the starter in and make the contacts up. It could be worn contacts or high resistance as you say. Earth leads can be checked by measuring voltage drop across chassis to engine block.

You haven't witnessed my driving 😀 Fair point. Will try them as I think I glazed mine due to calipers being sticky when I got the car.

Sod it. I'll put a pair on and see what happens. Checking pistons are free in process. The 18" wheels are so heavy, just taking them off once is very attractive.

AI says; Slotted discs: Feature grooves that run along the disc's surface. They offer improved gas and water expulsion and can enhance pad bite. Drilled discs: Have holes drilled through the disc, offering better heat dissipation and gas expulsion than solid discs. Combination (drilled...

    Freelander 1 Front brake squeal

Thanks for the great advice !! It is possible that I heated the new discs and they have gone too shiny ?!?! Which leads to a discussion with @kernowsvenski last weekend. Grooves and holes in the discs, good, bad or waste of time ?? I can see how they might displace brake dust and perhaps add...

    Freelander 1 Front brake squeal

Thanks, calipers are only a year old, but it is possible. Brakes run cool when driving with no brake application. Thinking - I renewed the pads and discs first before realising the calipers were not returning properly, although not seized. Is it possible that the discs have been 'glazed' ...

    Freelander 1 Front brake squeal

A minor annoyance on the TD4 Sport 2003. When I bought the car it had seized calipers and worn discs. Calipers and discs replaced and Mintex pads fitted. All good with no problem for 15,000 miles. Due to a long Scotland trip looming, I replaced the pads early (they had 7 or 8mm) with Girling...

Disconnect battery. Take one lead off from fuse box. The lead from battery. 3 nuts and lift fusebox up to allow access.

I've had strut top bearings and also a loose centre shock nut (at the top) that clonks like a roll bar joint.
