Got it checked out by local garage and they've confirmed faulty thermostat - apparently they're gonna fit a remote one (nod to other member for advice - and nod to other member for guessing the problem) £100 for parts and labour

Haven't tried a thing yet - looks like a job for weekend - is there a potential for damage if I keep driving?

Yeah - when I got back I switched off, left it for 10 minutes and then started it again. Left it idling for a few mins and the temp gauge did rise (only slightly) and some warm air came out of the blowers - drove it again for a few minutes and then gauge back to the bottom and cold air again.

Heater controls work as far as I know - blowing out cold air. Probably basic, but how do I check if the thermostat is stuck open? Thanks for the quick reply

Recently purchased an 02 Freelander 1.8 (yeah - I know now). Anyway, temp gauge is just about moving and no heat from the blowers, just cold air. Any ideas? Cheers
