Diesel MPG in a 2A LWB

Thanks all, no O\D but Im getting about 200 to a tank (10 gals) so its about right. The runing hot is probably OK too, the heater fan works so I never actually over heat, I ut run the fan. Mind I cant chat much as its louder than the diesel engine. I keep expecting a problem with her but...

Diesel MPG in a 2A LWB

Anyone have any ideas what my consumption fuel should be? I just did a trip on main roads and 100 miles round trip at 40-45MPH used half a tank of diesel. I know it LWB and old but that seems an awful lot. It is also running very hot in summer (just below the redline), Ive taken out the...

    Series 3 problems

Its part if the injector pump, I think its called the distributor pump. Its not a solanoid, its just a valve called the stop lever, (see SII_ROM diagram 19-1 part 6). In the cab it looks like an old choke that you pull. There is a cable between the two which looks like the throttle cable.

    Series 3 problems

As not many comment on diesels Ill chip in, Im no expert and this may be a bit obvious but check that the engine kill isnt engaged (down position). When I bought my 2a diesel the kill cable had slipped and stayed engaged even when you pushed the knob in. Poor guy selling stripped everything down...

    Oil filter

Thanks, it figures that I may have a III engine, it was originally a petrol. But the center of the filter is too wide to catch the spring, its an inch acorss and the spring is 1/2 inch. The one I removed was the same but do I need another filter?

    Oil filter

I think its all standard, there is the threaded shaft with a thick washer that sits outside the housing and holds it in place. The element which is standard for the car (there was only one for the series diesel) and the large rubber washer that the hosting buts into at the top section. Finally...

    Oil filter

On my new 2A deisel I got my speedo working eventually and then decided to change the oil as a precaution. I got the oil filter element out easily enough but a spring also fell out. Should there be a spring in there? There is no mention of it in the workshop manual or Haynes comic, can I assum...

    Speedo cable stripped in gearbox

Just to update you all, I emptied the transfer box oil then removed the 2 screws of the outer retainer although the top one only loosened. With it out the way there was enough broken cable left to pluck it out. New cable works a treat, happy wife. Not all plain sailing, how do you refill the...

    Speedo cable stripped in gearbox

Thanks again, no I cant see it at all, I tried a pickup magnet (on a spring thing) but it wasnt strong enough. I think shes wedged in quite a bit. Ill have another bash tomorrow in daylight. Just hoping I can loosen the speedo casing enough to get at the top screw of the bit the cable goes...

    Speedo cable stripped in gearbox

Wesley thanks for the quick response, its stuck fast and the new cable wont go in so it is there. Can I push it through to the sump? If so Ill give it a bigger push, probably right up to a wack.

    Speedo cable stripped in gearbox

hello all, youve got a very good site. I just bought a IIA 109 Diesel (late one with head lights on the wings). I thought I was done with old cars and oil but the landie is perfect for the snow in Devon and god its cheap for parts. Anyway as part of making it more comfortable for my wife I am...
