    Probably a silly question but..........

From memory, pretty sure on my 96 DT there is a warning if the headlights are switched on when you remove the ignition key (or is it when you open the driver's door?) but no warning if only the side lights are on. If you switch the headlights off after removing the key you get the headlamp delay...

Will P38's become appreciating Assets ?

15 years for the front airbags, that's good, they're only 2 years past their use by date then

Will P38's become appreciating Assets ?

Pretty sure there's no airbag service light/indicator. I seem to recall reading somewhere a recommendation the airbags should be replaced after 10 years. I doubt anyone has done this though due to the cost, I certainly haven't. Note: we're talking SRS airbags here.:o

    Rattling front windows

I get a rattle from the front passenger door but only when the window is shut . Just wondered if anyone had experienced this?

    engine disabled

Been away a few days so catching up with the treads. My P38a becomes immobilised if there is a delay between unlocking and starting the engine. In the immobilised state if I insert key 2 into the ignition the fob blinks and I can start the engine - I think this is how it is supposed to work. If...

    EAS compressor mounts

I think I've found the answer to most of my questions on this old thread: http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/changing-compressor-p38-155478.html Still curious as to why the Tech Bull suggests changing the bracket.

    EAS compressor mounts

Hi, Advise appreciated. For some time it has been pretty noticeable when the EAS compressor kicks in and out (audible and vibration). Is this typical? It is possible to buy replacement rubber mounts has anyone changed their mounts? Did it make a significant difference? Rave has a tech bull on...

    Colour info please?

I could do with repainting the black frame that surrounds the door windows on my '96 P38a - I seem to have polished it through to the white primer. Is there a 'proper' colour for this or should I just get a can of satin black from my local auto parts shop? Thanks, mikeateves

    EAS Problem 1998 RR

Just to throw in a couple of comments from my experience of changing the airsprings on my '96 P38. I had real trouble getting a couple of the airlines out, I nearly gave up on the job, but after a couple more attempts they came out. I had to use a pry bar to get the top of the rear bags out of...

    Thermostat on P38, 2.5DSE

I recently replaced the thermostat on my P38a DT, took about an hour and no real problems. I fitted a Quinton Hazell stat, not cheap but has worked fine so far! I didn't drain the whole system as it wasn't long since the coolant was replaced, just under 2 litres of coolant needed to top up (+...

    Bust fan and radiator

Hi, Thanks for the replies. I'm inclined to agree that this was down to the fan breaking up.

    Bust fan and radiator

No play at all in the water pump. Most of the blades were completely intact, 3 or 4 (can't remember exactly & haven't got the fan to hand) just short stubs left. From memory, a couple of the broken blades were next to each other with a complete blade separating the other 1/2 broken blade(s).

    Bust fan and radiator

I wondered about fatigue of the fan blades, I tried flexing the remaining blades and they seemed fine. There was a break in the cowl near the top of the O/S side near the top. Difficult to see how anything could have bust its way through at this point. Cowling was still where it should have been.

    Bust fan and radiator

Hi, I thought I'd share a recent mishap with my P38a DT. Driving home Wednesday evening I heard a muffled bang from the engine compartment and noticed some debris coming out from the back of the vehicle so I pulled over to take a look to see coolant pouring out of the radiator. Also some of the...

Hi Saint.V8, Thanks for the reply. It's easy enough to disconnect the battery so I'll go for that. Mike

    Height sensor testing

Hi, I think I need to test the height sensors on my '96 P38a which I was going to do by measuring the resistance as the arm moves. Is it sufficient to just disable the suspension by leaving a door open or do I need to do more e.g. disconnect the battery before disconnecting and removing the...

Immobiliser kicked in at filling station????

Some time ago I replaced the RF receiver in my diesel P38 with the latest (at least I think it was the latest) it cured the battery drain problem I was having. Anyway I had a similar problem at an Esso garage. I couldn't lock the car with the remote and the engine was imobilised. I got the...

    Manual Gearbox P38 oil change

I was advised by the local independent LR garage to use ATF rather than MTF in the manual gearbox. They reckoned the gearbox bearings lasted longer with ATF. I use one of those pump attachments you can power off an electric hand drill to pump the oil into the gearbox. Just have to be careful to...
