    Good tip from clutchdust not a lot of extra work to get the transfer box off seperately,a bit awkward but not too heavy. The main box itself is actually quite light.     Gotta take the box out as the clutch has died a death, the motor is up on a column lift at the moment. I appreciate it's going to be heavy but is it possible for two people to lift it out, i have a transmission jack but frankly its pants. Any advice or weightlifters most appreciated.

    Don't know it's by passed. Before i reconnect it i was wondering if this is a common bodge, it might leak or have a crack somewhere and let air in.

    Redone the calculation taking into account the gradient and using mud to work out the rolling resistance now comes out at 29.3t of effort.

    Same as you my cheat sheet is in the workshop. I'll do it sometime tomorrow, think there might even be a figure for snow when doing rolling resistance.

    The Institute of Vehicle Recovery has a way of devising the effort required to winch a vehicle in different circumstances. Using this method a 44t vehicle on a flat, smooth road with no damaged wheels would require 1.76 ton to move it. Providing of course it has enough air to release the brakes.

    Slag me off if i'm wrong but many manufacturers (?) fit the same loom to different specifications of the same vehicle. Working on the basis it is better to waste a bit of wire than to manufacture x amount of different looms>

    I think it's a breather for the timing case, i know the defenders had one. You see a piece of what looks like mesh in the hole if it is. The thread is for a wading plug.

    Most modern gearboxes are no longer splash lubricated but have an oil pump which is driven off the input shaft. Therefore if you are being towed the gearbox is being driven but the oil pump isn't. You either remove propshafts or halfshafts or suspend the driving axle, which is why a Land...

    Blocked filter is same as having crap (not a crap) in your tank, the pump will pick it up and block the pipework, after a time the suction will decrease and the crap will drop off until the next time it's picked up. Know someone who spent weeks on this sort of problem, the truck would do a mile...
