No gear changes go smooth as butter. It does have the 'popping out of 2nd gear' problem. Could this be related?

Hi everyone! Recently I did an oil change on my Series III, but to my shock these metal splinters came with the oil... They are quite thin and curved in many ways. Does anyone know what part these might be from and what to do with the transmission at this point in time? Thanks in advance!
