What have you done to your Freelander today

Replaced back box. Picked up last MOT as the outer was rusted and coming away. Not blowing. See the pic of the old one below. Looks suspiciously like a date code, if it is, it’s done very well. My FL is a March 06 registration on 157.5 k miles. Original? NOS sometime? Needed one of them wrap...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Well the plan was to replace the El Cheapo front ARB bushes with some poly ones - Floflex not Powerflex to see how long they last. TLDR: didn’t happen had to put El Cheapos back. The polys when measured side by side with the others are bigger. Maybe because the others have compressed while in...

    Freelander 1 Dash switch illumination

I think there’s a bit of confusion about this post, with regards to the heater knobs. I don’t have any problems with surrounds - the red and blue, direction or fan speed are all lit up as they should be.What I was asking initially (although I didn’t word it as well as I could have) was should...

Thanks for that. How do you get the switches out?Although I suppose it does matter if you wreck it on the way out as you’ve got to get another switch anyway. ☹️

    Freelander 1 Dash switch illumination

Hi All, Driving the other night with lights on(!) I noticed that the hazard switch and the three heater knobs were not illuminated. Question is should they be? The two fog light and rear wash/wipes were all lit, as were the three heater dials/ surrounds. Cheers, Michael.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Hi htr, I did my headlining last year. To answer you question I don’t think it matters which end you start from, I think it’s more important to have two sets of hands. One to do the actual laying of the fabric and the other to roll the fabric out as required. Having said all that I did it on my...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Washed and polished mine. If ever there was a thankless task, especially at this time of year. Buffed the headlights. Mixed success; OS pretty good, NS less so. Used Autoglyms kit. Noticed however that the NS had a bit of condensation in at the bottom which is a new thing. Any advice greatly...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Had its 6 month oil renewal. Plus filter of course, air, pollen, crankcase breather(?) you know the cylindrical one in front of the air filter, and that funny little one, lives behind the block, has one pipe to it and costs pennies turbo breather? Cleaned EGR and as much of the associated pipes...

    Worth new clutch

My slave cylinder failed in November, and I bit the proverbial bullet and went for it - both cylinders, new clutch and DMF. All by LUK. £1700! Had some engine mounts done at the same time. My reasoning was: 1. Scrap the FL and get pennies, then go and source another motor you know nothing...

What have you done to your Freelander today

I did it on my own. I suspect it’s much easier with an extra pair of hands to roll out the material as you smooth it out/down.

Got mine from here on t’bay: £49.99 with enough material to do the roof and the door inserts. Plus two cans of glue good for 120 degrees C (IIRC). 👍🏻

What have you done to your Freelander today

Hi All, With regards to the VED issue. My MY 06 was registered on 10/03/06, and has a CO2 figure exceeding 225, so my interpretation of the VED table is that if the car was registered before the 23/03/06 it’ll be in K, if registered after 23/03/06 and exceeding 225g it’ll be in L. So I dodged it...

Thanks GG. So do I. So far so good, but then I’ve only done 50 miles! 😁

Freelander 1 What oil for Td4?

On a responsible owners forum such as this, definitely not! 😁

Freelander 1 What oil for Td4?

Absolutely. I’ll be doing mine after the hols. Every 6 months 5W/40. Much cheaper and infinitely more convenient than than an engine shaped door stop. I also change the crankcase breather and clean the EGR while it’s draining. 👍🏻

Well, got my FL1 back with a brand spanking new clutch, cylinders, DM flywheel and an engine tie rod. 156k. The perfect Xmas prezzie. 😁

    Freelander 1 No gear selection.

Well got the FL back today. New clutch, both cylinders, DM flywheel and a lower tie rod. I asked them to check engine/diff mounts as there was a ‘thud’ on a couple of occasions when I had to brake suddenly. Wallet rather a bit lighter 🤷‍♂️ as I opted ( recommended on here as well as the...

    Clutch pedal on the floor

Hi Andy, thanks for that. It’s at a good classic LR specialist, literally 3 miles away, and his rates are around the £45-50 mark. He’s got a 13 plate FL2 for sale for £7k and I was initially tempted when it first happened and was recovered back, but I do like my FL1. Not least because when it...
