I’ve had the key apart numerous times to change the battery and over the years had no problems with anything in that department. It was on the fault list to look at but now was resided that the ECU on the steering column was kaput! I’m based in NW London....

It’s got 3/4 tank of petrol so that’s a start, sun is forecast for a good few weeks.......

Either way it will look good on the driveway, blackout windows and use as additional storage

Given up now unfortunately, I really appreciate the help and advice. I’ll stick it up for sale as non runner somewhere, beautiful car dressed as 2011 supercharged, sad to see it go......

It did cross my mind Tomcat lol! Right, I had the mechanic round, with the replacement steering column plugged it, I only get the one key turn, so that no doubt is a duff one, I’ll get that returned sheepishly for refund..... the fault came up as ‘ Interface Immobiliser’ whatever that means...

Thanks for the info, my gut feeling is that the car is kaput somewhere from the immobilization somewhere as they key turns but died t even make a noise to start the engine. I haven’t tried it out again as I’ll let my mechanic have a nose and go through a few things with him from the info...

Thanks for that, there’s no clicking sound or anything or anything with the old one. The replacement one when plugged in made no sound but after a while it allowed me to turn the key but not to turn over the starter motor. I appreciate you giving me pointers for my mechanic when he visits.

Couldn’t even get a reading with old column in, couldn’t get any readings at all via the OBD

I got my mechanic coming on Saturday and hopefully he’ll hook up his machine and get some fault codes off it, he was going to replace the steering column for me but we’ll get the error codes first! I have that gut feeling it’s going to be expensive!

Hi all! I’ve read and watched the dreaded problem on a L322 2003 4.4 where the key won’t turn. I know it’s been covered quite a bit but I tried the battery removal, fuse 18 to no joy so I got a secondhand column off EBay model QMB000162, that is the model as it looked the same for a 2003...
