Discovery 2 V8 2002 with LPG. Disaster purchase. Failed MOT high CO reading

Managed to get the last electrical connection off using the above method but it was extremely awkward even with the exhaust dropped. The bar under the exhaust had to come off. I found 2 of the bolts had been sheared off on one side and another had been rounded off on the other. Fortunately, a...

Discovery 2 V8 2002 with LPG. Disaster purchase. Failed MOT high CO reading

Don't know if it's the correct way. Managed to get the passenger one off by leaving it in place on its tab, squeezing the clip lift and easing it apart with a screwdriver. They stick together pretty tight. Access to the driver side is much more difficult but will attempt this method. Have...

Discovery 2 V8 2002 with LPG. Disaster purchase. Failed MOT high CO reading

Head gaskets replaced and head skimmed. On disassembly found that previous owner had got the lpg feed pipes to the front and second, bank 1 cylinders swapped. I was hoping that this would be the cause of high CO readings (2.6) but it would appear not. Also, I have replaced the secondary air pump...

Ooh err. Where does this wire go?

Yes. Totally agree. I labelled up most bits but must have thought this was an obvious connection. Pictures on the phone would have made this much easier....Next time...And let's face it there'll be a next time!!:D

Ooh err. Where does this wire go?

Wire went to a relay block with 4 terminals. This block permanently connected it to another black wire that isn't attached to anything. I'm assuming that the black wire is an earth that has been undone by someone. So effectively a spurious number of connections I think. Will leave unconnected...

Ooh err. Where does this wire go?

Thanks for looking Al203. I've been trawling the internet for days to try to find the wiring diagram. However, I've just discovered that that the wire has been wrapped against the loom and is not part of the original wiring. That's why it's not matching the diagrams. Sorry I didn't realise that...

Ooh err. Where does this wire go?

Hi folks Have had my V8 Disco 2002 in bits and I've a wire that I'm not sure about. It's a brown wire with a small red line on it. It looks like it attaches with the black wire to the back of the alternator. It's the right length and has the correct diameter electrical connector. There's...

    Multiple gaskets on exhaust manifold

Otherwise, put back together using same number of gaskets? The gaskets are in good condition and have had no sealants used, can I reuse them?

    Multiple gaskets on exhaust manifold

Hi folks. When I took the exhaust manifolds off my 2002 4.0l V8 I found that 3 gaskets had been put on each position. ie 12 gaskets in total. Don't know if this was done at the factory or later. I guess I should put a straight edge across the manifolds to see how flat they are. Just seems a bit...

Discovery 2 V8 2002 with LPG. Disaster purchase. Failed MOT high CO reading

Secondary air pump is knackered. Filter has disintegrated and fan will not turn. Well rusted up. Does the fan turn off after the cat is warm enough or does is continue to pump air through to lower emissions? I've tried to dissemble the pump. The fan blade will not come off. I guess too much...

Discovery 2 V8 2002 with LPG. Disaster purchase. Failed MOT high CO reading

Thanks for that. Gonna do the head first. Also, I don't think the secondary air is working. Will take the pump off to test.

Discovery 2 V8 2002 with LPG. Disaster purchase. Failed MOT high CO reading

Started the engine yesterday. I had the bonnet open and noticed some steam come from around the furthest spark plug in on bank 1 and quickly cleared. I'm convinced it's the cylinder head as that area is where the water jacket is. Anyone had any experience with aftermarket gasket kits. ie. Any...

Discovery 2 V8 2002 with LPG. Disaster purchase. Failed MOT high CO reading

Code reader is i930 carsoft. Specific for Land Rover and Jaguar. Cost £100. Was quite well reviewed. I guess I've been really lucky in the past with cars I've bought off the bay. I don't do much mileage as I cycle everywhere. My disappointment with this car was the way the car was described...

The genuine cats are crazy expensive. Discovery 2 V8 2002 with LPG. Disaster purchase. Failed MOT high CO reading

I'll check the plugs. I've owned a number of LPG cars. There is no noticeable difference driving on either fuel. Never had any issues with plugs. The tester tried the car in both fuels and the result was the same: Way too much CO. Guess I'll have to take the cats off and see if there's anything...

Discovery 2 V8 2002 with LPG. Disaster purchase. Failed MOT high CO reading

Thanks for your reply Gottschalk. I think if it was just the steering box and gaiters I wouldn't be too concerned. It's the terrible CO readings that are the problem. Especially as the code reader is indicating no malfunctions. They were so high that it sent the emissions machine haywire. The...

Discovery 2 V8 2002 with LPG. Disaster purchase. Failed MOT high CO reading

Hi folks. I was daft enough to believe claims made about the above car on Ebay and purchased for £2010 from a private seller. Stupid I know. Car was described as being in very good condition for age. 'Not the usual rubbish'. Had the car for 2 weeks and put it through its MOT. It failed on...
