thanks guys, i pulled the carby apart again yesterday, checking everything, and was looking at what looked like a piece of brass in the main jet, and thought hmm maybe i'll pull it out and see what it is, turned out to be a bloody leaf !!!:mad::mad::rolleyes::D Stuck her back together and shes...

Howdy guys, just tried running the fuel into a bottle, then from a pool in the bottle into the carby, no difference, still won't run without choke, also is getting plenty fuel coming in. In the main jet, is there supposed to be a small (bronze?) needle in the middle? it kinda looked like it was...

Right guys - did a bit of playin around yesterday: Carby - looks v clean inside -Checked carb for air leaks - gaskets etc all look good -Checked fuel jets - look good, a little gunk in the "slow running" one which i cleaned out. -The main jet has what looks like a tiny brass rod in the center...

Thanks - i think the dizzy is ok, just wondered if there were other benefits with a replacement, I think i'll just go for the points replacement. Cheers, S3ww

Will check the coolant tomorrow, as far as i know she has all original engine/head - could well be worn valves/pistons/rings or a combination like you say. That's a good point about the blue smoke - there's not a lot of blue smoke, occasionally black, but not much blue at all:confused:o_O Col...

Thanks guys for all the helpful advice - have made a list of things to check sometime this week based on you recommendations thanks: -Check fuel jets -Check fuel filter -Check ignition system for moisture -Drain oil and refill with correct amount (6.25L it said somewhere?) -Compression test...

Not sure if they did a compression test - will ask. It did use oil before the tune, barely smoked before, and the same after tune, until it starting running funny - a fair amount of smoke then under acceleration. See photo below of spark plug, all look about the same. They were new about 1000...

Thanks for the replies guys, will double check the ignition & fuel lines tonight, I did pull the air filter when i got home from 4x4 trip no2 and there was no water thankfully.... Col, what electronic ignition system do you use? is it easy to install/what kind of price range are we talking...
