hi try this there is an earth point behind the battery follow the eath from the battery term. and you will see a metal plate thats attached to the cable and inner wing remove bolt and clean body and plate and bolt also there is and earth cable from the body to the g/box bolt check this

hi did you have the heater on when it happened and does the heater work now my 94 disco did same thing but i did not notice that the fan motor had stopped and the smoke in the air vents was down to the motor burning out just dont use the fan and it will be ok until you can get it fixed...
