    1.8 exhaust differences

Hi could anyone tell me what the differences are between a complete exhaust system for a 1.8 engined freelander post and pre 2000. Are the systems different lengths or are the mounts in different places? Has anyone successfully fitted an early system to a post 2000 car? Thanks Chris

No Engine Management Light & Fuel Filter Question

After doing the headgasket on our '02 1.8 freelander i thought id check for any fault codes with my bluetooth obd reader, i had a code stored for the o2 sensor. this made me wonder why there was no eml showing, after checking the eml doesn't come on when the ignition is switched on either as id...

is this k series block clean enough?

thought i should update this, the freelander is now back running well, had a stuck tappet ticking away for the first 10 minutes after restart but other than that in respect to the running of the engine all is well, however as usual when you do one job a couple of other issues have popped up but...

is this k series block clean enough?

No idea if you can tell by looking but it didn't take me much longer than an hour to reseal all 4 liners. Does anyone have a picture of where to apply sealant on the oil ladder? I went for a ring of loctite 574 around the 5 central holes the only picture i could find wasn't overly clear. Head...

is this k series block clean enough?

Collected the head yesterday and rebuilt it this morning. It required 10 thou skimming off. Refitted block in engine bay this afternoon and like a prize turnip snagged the gearbox input shaft and turned the crank with it so tomorrow morning will see me dropping the sump and resealing the...

is this k series block clean enough?

Ive just ordered a bw750 and the loctite, could someone tell me the tightening method for the latest payen gasket, from memory it used to be something like torque each bolt to 20nm in a spiral sequence from the centre then tighten each bolt a further 180degs in sequence then a final round of...

The buffing wheel hasn't been near the block it's only had a small hand brass brush and scotchbrite pad on it, it feels and looks smooth

is this k series block clean enough?

Why do i need to? It's not been turned with the head off. But if i were to reseal them is it just a case of pulling them out applying sealant to the bases then replacing?

is this k series block clean enough?

No i haven't dave, the pistons aren't in the proper position as i didn't use a cam locking tool and the cams moved as they do whilst removing the belt, ill realign the block once the head is bolted down with the cams removed this isn't the first k series ive done but ive not rebuilt an engine...

is this k series block clean enough?

after ignoring our freelander which snapped it's timing belt for long enough i managed to pick up a running dizzy type engine for £100. ive stripped the head off it to swap the headgasket and give it a bit of a refresh as i already had the parts ready to do the broken engine, ive cleaned both...

    replacement engine options

Thanks longbolt, i meant what is required to make a distributer engine into a coil pack engine, but ive been informed all id need to do is swap in my cams and covers so that means i can use early engines aswell

    replacement engine options

sadly sunday evening our '02 freelander 1.8 shed it's timing belt, having stripped it down it's terminal with a cracked liner, destroyed piston and 2 valve heads lodged in the head. ive started looking around for replacement engines and there's not many cheap coil pack freelander engines...
