Been having a play about with getting this wired up this weekend.
Things I've learned:
The wheel mounted buttons produce the following on a multimeter:
Pos'n 1: 400 ohms
Pos'n 2: 800 ohms
Pos'n 3: 1600 ohms
Pos'n 4: full continuity
With 2 wires coming from the rotary...
Well new wheel is fitted, looks better than "Teal" heuurrggh!
Sadly the wheel mounted controls are not plug and play! so I'd need to figure out a loom at some point.
Interestingly it only has 2 wires coming from the switch anyway so if anyone knows the positions of these 2 wires in the...
iirc it's approx £20-25 a pop and yes it charges on the socket permanent on VW and seamingly switched on LRs so will only charge whilst key switched to at least pos 1
Here's an idea: Why not remove the cigar lighter from the car (useless item for those that don't smoke) and replace with a small torch such as those fitted to the VW Touareg. I have, it's a very useful addon

I called the RAC to my non-cranking/non starting freelander about a fortnight ago. He found the starter solenoid gummed up. Don't know if that's next to the starter motor anyway but worth a look. (RAC man fiddling under bonnet at nearside front wheel) HTH
