    Just had a reply from alt specialist or not so specialist.... fault with regulator intermittently trying to charge .... was also taking the battery light off his bench worktop setup too then packed in completely whilst he was testing it lol...... new regulator fitted and retested at correct...

    sorry it's late been a busy body lol... testing this testing that ..... I've tested straight from the nut that fastens the power cable to the alternator and bridged to the casing still showing 12.4 when running..... also took the alt back off and tested the 3 pin plug that clicks into the back...

    Thanks folks sorry for the late reply I've tested everything to the end of my knowledge lol the old alt went in as exchange and he showed me inside the cover at the back the brushes were none existent and the copper ring I think it was or whatever it was .. was down to the plastic... that's why...

    Hi people .....I'm absolutely at my wits end with my wife's disco TD5 .....it broke down the other day turns out the batt was dead as a dodo ... managed to drag it home with the help of a landy mate....charged the battery up on a slow 24hr charge.... put batt back on and tested with voltmeter...

    Any idea what kinda job it is buddy? I've looked on the rave manual and it doesn't look too bad but it's pretty tucked out the way...... I've had the starter motor off before to refurb and replaced the waterpump last month so got some basic mechanical skills lol

    This happened to mine at less than 100k on clock .... I have a thread on here from last year luckily I noticed the light and didn't do any major damage... although when repaired the turbo went not long after.... 1 year on still going strong at 110k

    Thanks bud .... yeah the wheel bearing had collapsed as in the photo which I'm assuming was the reason why they came on.... loud grating noise followed not long after by the 3 lights.....checked the bearings first and found this so replaced both sides .... hopefully now get it plugged in...

    Sorry I meant that the warning lights came on and this is wot I found...so replaced both fronts and the warning lights are still on.... just hoping that I can get them erased and they stay off.

    Ok thanks for the reply.... I had no warning lights previous to me discovering this **** bearing ... wonder if it's thrown me a double whammy ..... won't hurt to get it plugged in and read I suppose.
