Thanks to all that post on here - after reading and posting I was able to make the right choice of Landy. So much info on here that was very useful. So I now have a td5 hard top and have had it now for a couple of weeks and even though I have swapped from a very luxurious Shogun I must admit...

Are insurance companies just trying to find ways to load premiums and opt out when claims are made. What is a modification? changing all the lights to leds? fitting a stainless exhaust? roof racks? I get that some mods are possibly going to impact damage inflicted to other cars such...

Cant make my mind up if I can do without aircon and leather - narrowed my selection down to a couple with the above but they are a good 1 to 1.5k more than those without and that money would be good to spend on mapping. Its been such a long time since I didn't have aircon that I really cant...

So the alloys are 10 years old - If it helps I had a set of BFG AT's on a set of alloys (after market) that had been on them for 8 years and there was no sign at all of any cracking or perishing.

Interesting reading this - I'm running an 07 plate SWB shogun which I think I will be swapping against a 90 TD5 Station Wagon. I had hoped to get a 04/05 plate but hell 'Defenders' do command good money. Mine with all its refinement just falls short of where I would like it to be value wise...

Interesting thought more would have been saying td5 - been reluctant to look at none td5 and had sort of settled on the 2003 - 2007 period of td5 with aircon. Perhaps I should consider the older ones.

everything that I have read seems to say steer away from the new engine, I guess that there will be more emission rubbish fitted. Which of the older td5 were the better models

Given that improvements have been continually made and obviously some will be deemed better than others what year and spec of defender would you buy if you had your choice and why?
