Disco 2 Replacing CD changer with iPod/MP3 flash drive

Hi, just succeeded in replacing the Alpine 6CD changer on my Disco 2 ES with an MP3 flash drive, so thought I'd post my findings. Car was fitted with the high end H-K set up including an Alpine XQE100240 mulichanger, driven by the 10 pin BMW connector (marked AMP 1-929270-2A, BMW 1 383 873)...

    3.9 V8efi - Missfiring at random?

This sounds similar to my own experience. Misfire on start up after having been sat for a while. Turned out a water gallery had cracked and was leaking coolant into cylinder 6. When left over night it caused plug fouling (corrosion) which took a little time to clear on start up. The gallery...

    V8 4.0 coolant loss

These symptoms sound suspiciously like ones I had a year ago. Turned out to need the liners replacing due to a corroded water gallery. It wasn't liner slip, it leaked under pressure between the liner and the block into the cylinder, then out the exhaust. All the other symptoms were there also...

D2 Front 1/2 Shaft - To space or not..

Well, a visit to the local main dealer confirmed my theory that the Disco 2 CVs don't require the spacer. According to the parts catalogue it is a Disco 1\Defender\RR Classic only item. On that basis I'll leave it as is!

D2 Front 1/2 Shaft - To space or not..

Greetings All, Having decided to replace front hubs & CVs I have a question regarding spacers. The manual tells me to remove, clean & refit a spacer on the shaft splines inboard of the CV. When I stripped down the front OS, however, no spacer to be found! A search of spares providers...

    Sunroof repair:Best tool & re-design option

I certainly think picking the right sealant is key to the deal, & the mentioned one sounds good. I chose a PU sealant just based on guidelines for stuff like caravan windows.

    3.9 efi drinking water!!

DaveW, this sounds all too familiar. I had this on my (3 weeks new to me) Disco2. As soon as the heads were removed it was clear to me that one piston crown (cyl.6) was showing signs of 'bore washing'. It looked like it had been steam cleaned. This was where the coolant was going, from the...

    Sunroof repair:Best tool & re-design option

I have this week joined the ranks of those who have repaired leaky sunroofs. No more wet shoulders for my dear wife. Let's hope the car becomes a little more popular to ride in now! In carrying out the repair I definitely became attached to my latest tool acquisition, a trim removal tool. Not...

    Thor ignition coil wiring

Thanks Peter. Looking at the access to the rear of the heads now leaves me thinking they can stay put. Battery light was extinguished after a good contacts clean. Misfire remains, but manual states that if the flywheel has been off then the crankshaft position sensor adaptive values must be...

    Thor ignition coil wiring

Greetings all, I am hoping someone out there can enlighten me on my efforts to reconnect my V8 on a Discovery 2. In reconnecting the ignition coil pack I noticed that there were two small earth wires coming out of the loom in this area, with end fittings to allow them to be screwed down...

    Thor Fuel line confusion

Problem solved. Took a look at the fuel tank & the grey nylon pipe is the only type leaving it. Assumed the black plastic type was some sort of vent and connected in the 90 degree elbowed jointed grey pipe. Started it up tonight & it runs, just about. Time for a new thread to diagnose a lousy...

    Thor Fuel line confusion

Possibly, & this one doesn't even look like it can be fixed with a big hammer!

    It's nice to be here!

Hello All, My name is Simon, and my long time obsession with Land Rovers and more generally 'V8's has finally landed me in trouble! I wanted a Range Rover since they first came out (yes, I'm that old & have the I Spy book to prove it) but for years have had faster & small 4WD cars in the...

    Thor Fuel line confusion

Hi, I find myself reassembling my recently acquired Disco 2 V8 engine after a water gallery failure & re-lining. The top end of the engine wasn't disassembled by me, so finishing off the installation is proving tricky. I am currently stumped on fuel lines. I have two 'candidates coming forward...
