Just a quick one chaps: does the transfer box use the same oil as the main gearbox or does it have its own supply? I still think its the transfer box and not the main gearbox

just had car dropped back by garage, they drained out some box fluid and it was burnt and had swarf in it. It still drives and changes gear although a little hesitantly. They say the box is kaput and needs a new one but still have had no lights on the dash!!! So new gearbox looming but might...

when it gets back will get the garage to check the fluid in gearbox as they are not specialists. will check the alternator as well, just in case the noise is being pushed back by the fan not transfer box thern, as I had the hi range message come up?
