It's held by 2 screws behind the little grill. You need to remove the facia and get up behind the dash. Easy to do but you need to be a contortionist :). If you have RAVE look up section 82-39. Griff

Behind that grill is the internal temp sensor. Has a small fan that can get noisy due to fluff. Griff

Hi, I suspect the silicone is there to try and prevent the leak from the axle/hub joint. It should only need the large O ring to seal properly. Have done 2 of my rears and both times it was the actual bearing that was causing the leak not the O ring. Most folks don't put locktite on the splines...
