Was too good to be true. Horribly wet day with lots of heavy rain. Engine was running smoothly all morning. Sat at traffic lights for a while when engine cut out. Restarted after about 5 mins, but stalled immediately. Started fully after another 5 mins. Was fine on straight stretch of road...

Sorry, I've just seen your replies. No, didn't do anything. It just started running smoothly. I'm wondering if it was some contaminated fuel. Had a major with water in the fuel tank several years back. Learnt lesson not to refuel following heavy downpours ... If it does start playing up...

Thanks again. It's stopped stalling. Not sure if it's just waiting for a really good place to stall, or if something got through the filter and upset things for a while. Time will tell, I'm sure! B

Very many thanks for all your helpful suggestions. Will try cheapest first, as you suggest, and hopefully won't have to work up to a replacement fuel pump/fuel lift pump. Am assuming they're the same thing, but will do a search to check. Thanks again. B
