Fitted replacement prop and doughnut today. All is well.

So last night I managed to get a used prop locally. Typical. At least I'll have a spare for the future.

"Highlands and islands" postage is generally more than mainland destinations due to the remoteness (and Shetland is as far away from the UK mainland as you can get) and logistics of getting stuff there. Especially so with large/heavy items. I've actually found one at a reasonable price now...

That's probably what I'm going to do.

I'm actually having trouble getting a prop because of the delivery charges. Might be putting my old one back on yet. Either that or pay more than the price of the prop for delivery. It's effing annoying.

I've got a new doughnut now. I have just ordered a 2nd hand propshaft through ebay. Decided to just replace it. 2nd hand propshafts are pretty cheap.

I've damaged my rear prop with a bit of overly spirited off roading. As you can see, the rubber doughnut is toast. There is also some slight twisting to the bolt holes on the flange. I'm assuming this should be flat? Can it be straightened or is the prop toast too?

If I hadn't had another one sitting on the drive for spares I'd have found another way to do it.

Rigid tow pole mounted on the roof rack. It's just a scaffold pipe with a tow hitch bolted to it and a shackle at the other end. Been used a few times and works well.

Been fitting a new winch over the past couple of days. I've actually had this winch for four years. I aquired it in a liquidation auction for less than half the retail price at the time. Of course none of the bolt holes or the fairlead cut-out lined up from previous winch installations on this...

That's better. I'm not going to bother replacing the snapped cable.

A few small updates. People who read the Freelander section will have seen my post about the snapped bonnet cable. Long story short: I couldn't get the bonnet open so resorted to butchery and now I have a grey bonnet that's secured with rubber straps. I did fit a temporary bracket that bolted...

I like the new look. But I'm an old git with bad eyesight so I preferred the comments background in white as it was easier to read.

Yes. The manifold has been blowing for ages and I've been putting it off. Easier to do with that big bracket out of the way and it's MOT time soon so thought I'd better get it sorted. More details on that in my project thread.

Oh yeah, new water pump:

Finally got around to fitting the new pump today. I've been on night shifts and also waiting for some parts for the exhaust manifold, which I wanted to sort out while the water pump was out. Anyway, the new pump has cured the overheating problem, as expected.

Latest: Exhaust manifold has been removed and dewebbed. Dewebbing relaxed the warpiness a bit but it's still not flat. Unfortunately there's nowhere up here where I can get it skimmed for a fair price or in a reasonable time frame so it's been refitted as it is with a new gasket and Wurth...

Another bonnet. I have another unroadworthy Freelander on the drive. I've used a lot of parts from it.
