Disco 2 Advice needed on supporting body while replacing chassis!

Yep it's a 2 poster. Body can't come off the chassis, we are cutting the chassis and welding on new rear half. Thats kinda the problem, otherwise could just lift it all off but front end will remain attached to chassis.

Disco 2 Advice needed on supporting body while replacing chassis!

Thanks Stan. To be honest the 'how' to fit isn't so much the problem, the smaller details such as mounting and unmounting bits will be ok once we work out how to actually do the chassis. I think our best plan of attack at the moment is to do it with the car on floor rather than up on ramp (which...

Disco 2 Advice needed on supporting body while replacing chassis!

Howdy all. Well my 'half chassis' (bit more than half) is coming next week for my D2. It's 2200 mm long to replace the rear end of my old chassis, from Dixon Fabrication (https://dixonfabrication.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=87_92_137&product_id=169) My mechanic has replaced...

Thanks, sorry I missed the bit about Braith Speed. That looks reasonable. Mine is still on airbags yep. It might just be the perspective/angle of the photos, never had any comments about it being particularly low, its same as any other disco I have owned or used. here's another pic

I'd love to know where you got the fuel tank cradle from please, mine could do with being replaced. Also on your pics above I saw your tow plate. Mine is a funny one, way too high and I keep grounding the tail of my trailer when i pull onto a slope. Pics... Any idea what the cheapest way to...

Disco 2 Considering a galvanised replacement chassis

Pretty obvious NO to those questions, as you know. Does that make the landy worth the insane prices some of them are going for? Well, that's just opinion. Some would say yes, some no. My point was that 2k can buy a lot of car if you don't have some silly brand loyalty which companies turn around...

Salt on windscreen, Yep, you got it! We do try to get out of the wind but the fog we get here drops it everywhere. Wind is definitely the worst though, and yeah Landy's are rust magnets!

Disco 2 Considering a galvanised replacement chassis

hehee Well i dont know where you were, but I do know where I am. I could wax lyrical about the speed stuff rusts. A friend of mine is a metallurgist and comes to visit, he often laughs at the state of drill bits, drills, basically any metal anywhere which isnt stored dry and warm, and even then...

Oui, c'est vrai! Mondeo kicks ass for bang for buck!! Wish I lived somewhere with less rust problems! Stuff rusts while you blink here in Corrrnwallll

Disco 2 Considering a galvanised replacement chassis

Re the replacement v keeping Disco running: To each his own. I do get the other argument. I had it with someone recently who just wanted a bog standard hatchback or estate car for general use and the occasional trip with a wet dog. They were gonna spend what I'd call silly money (12-14k) for...

Disco 2 Considering a galvanised replacement chassis

thanks, that relieves me a bit as I thought I must have had a stroke :D However £770 to keep rust on my chassis, or £1000 (approx) to go further past any rust I have on chassis, seems wise to me. It also (I think) gets me to an easier point to join em and as it will be my first go (almost at...

Disco 2 Considering a galvanised replacement chassis

Hmm that's interesting. I suppose I was going by my eye over the whole vehicle. Those "half chassis" which replace the rotten area at the tail end look (against the vehicle) like a third to me, and where we looked where the 2200mm chassis would weld to my original one, it 'looked' like just over...

Disco 2 Considering a galvanised replacement chassis

Thanks but I woudnt call that "half", it's more like a third! The one I am getting is more like 50-60% and will get more steel replaced to where it's all good very good (still black painted)

Disco 2 Considering a galvanised replacement chassis

This company don't sell a half chassis. I asked and they said they are building them soon and I shuold get back to them. asked for a price and they said "contact us in a few months". That's a sale lost, I can't wait that long

    Daves D2 TD5 Project

To be honest I was a bit suspicious as nearly EVERY "good brand" these days has SOLD OUT, just get generic Chinese factory junk and make a killing by slapping their logo on it. I am still not 100% convinced these machines are as good as the Lincoln's of 20 years ago, but I have to say the...

Re the welding, I am VERY inexperienced (but nonetheless please with my results so far). I found an arc welder when we bought a tiny farm many years ago. It was buried under hay in a loft, rusted to f***, but turned it on and it worked. That was before I knew about rods getting damp (destroys...

Great stuff, love the VRM D15KOE!! Bloody cracking mercs too! "1999 reg PFL" - What does PFL mean? Would love to see the work light and LED bar installed when you get around to that! Nice job of the welding, let's see if you get a badge on't forum!
