    Getting really frustrated now.

It was the VCU, I have fitted a new one and now there are no knocks, clunks, bangs or vibration.

Ok, so new VCU ordered. It is probably well past its best by now anyway at 120,000 miles.

    Getting really frustrated now.

The noise seems to be coming from the rear, but I can't be sure of that and the subframe seems to be ok.

    Getting really frustrated now.

I am getting really frustrated with the knocking/banging coming from under my Freelander. It sounds and feels like I am driving over a cattle grid. It is intermittent and can occur both when cornering and when driving in a straight line, it doesn't happen all the time and it usually happens at...

    Putting an lt77 into a 109.

I don't think that the actual gearbox is a problem, but I think there may be a problem with fitting the series transfer box to the gearbox. You could use the Defender transfer box and have permanent 4 wheel drive but it is not an easy job to fit all the linkages and yes, you may need the 110 props.

Freelander 1 Inlet Air Cooler, do we really need it?

The intercooler makes quite a big difference to a turbo engine's efficiency. The intake heater on your old Alfa Romeo was to prevent carb icing.

    Land Rover Defender Steelies

I don't think so. I think the Discovery 2 used the same wheels as the Range Rover P38, but I could be mistaken.

    Land Rover Defender Steelies

They are steel modulars. Common on Defenders and often seen on Disco's. They tend to fetch £20-£30 each depending on condition.

    Freelander 1 Freelander 1 tyres

I have A/T's fitted to my FL1 now but in the past I have found that Avon ZX7's or Hankook Ventus Prime or RA28's work well. If good mileage is your only important criteria then there are others that will give better mileage and last longer, but I found the Avon and Hankook tyres to give a good...

    2.5 v6 aut schokt ?

Het kan ook de solenoïde zijn voor de versnellingsbak. U moet dit laten controleren als het oliepeil van de versnellingsbak correct is.

    Need a new master cylinder

You can get an OEM one like this; https://www.jgs4x4.co.uk/land-rover-freelander-td4-clutch-master-cylinder-pipe-oem-stc000020/ Or a Britpart one like this; https://www.paddockspares.com/stc000020-clutch-master-cylinder-rhd-2-0-diesel-td4.html Personally I would go for the OEM one, there is a...

Disco 2 Brakes Upgrade - Options

You will probably find that upgrading the brakes will make very little difference to your Disco's stopping performance unless you are regularly overheating the brakes. Stopping performance has far more to do with tyres than brakes. Under hard braking the standard system should be more than...

    What axle is this?

That looks to me like a standard 90 axle, usually called a Rover axle.

    Green lanes near me

Buy an OS map of your area and have a look. The 1:25000 Explorer ones are best but just double check they are up to date with the definitive map from your local council who can also update you about any closures.

    Freelander 1 Thermostat

I wouldn't be too worried about that. The TD4 engine does run cool, mine usually runs at around the quarter mark, getting up to around half in heavy traffic. I would be surprised if your thermostat is faulty. They usually fail in the closed position, which would lead to overheating.

HDC Fault / Christmas Tree Dashboard

look at the belt tensioner when the engine is running. There should be very little, if any movement of the tensioner arm or pulley, also listen for any squeaks. If there is visible deflection of the pulley, arm or belt or there is a squeak from the pulley, the tensioner should be replaced.
