    What tyre choice?

I would have thought for greenlaning 16"s should be fine and lift not necessary.

Turning off horn on alarm beeper

I have air horns fitted so Im really popular any time my alarm goes off, normally middle of the night at a caravan site. :brick:

    Headlight upgrade

I fitted halogen lamps (genuine Lucas) to several of my minis in years gone by and it was a tremendous improvement over the sealed beam. Now I have a '63 mini with sealed beams and wouldnt change them for the world - love that dim yellow glow :) Its so nice when you see a car coming towards you...

    Gearbox oil change Mileage

Local council waste disposal site. (Mine's less than a mile from the house) I have a 25 litre drum into which I pour all my old oil from changing oil on our small fleet then empty it into council tank when full, which it is now and I must remember to empty!:) Simple if a little messy...

Richard Hammond driving landy up a dam

I found it disappointing as I do with most of Topgear these days sadly. A tribute to Defender would have been to show off its sensible abilities, maybe im doing something wrong but I hardly ever drive my landrover up a reservoir!

    The other vehicle

Love that sub! Got a notion for a Fiat 500 as a runabout, but maybe a bit "girly"?

    Tax exempt disco?

My '63 Mini is tax exempt. Just insured it for another year for £88. :-)

What mileage is your Disco 2 on?

130000, 97000 in my 8 years of ownership, still loving it but wondering what on earth I can replace it with that wouldnt be mega expensive to buy or run?

Electric window motor failure - again!

Various different suppliers, Island 4x4, Paddocks etc. They dont seem to be branded. Im guessing that its a vehicle fault rather than a problem with the motors given the number Ive replaced, unless of course they are cheap Chinese rubbish?

    Play in steering

Is that with the engine running? As mentioned above, mine seems to have a significant amount of play with the engine off, when the engine and power steering pump are running this disappears. (Ive just replaced steering box, pump, draglink and steering rod). 4" of free play seems very excessive.

    tyres

Grabber ATs are the replacement for the AT2s. Ive had both types on 18"s as well. I really cant fault them. Much much better than the Goodyear Wranglers I used to have and will last more than twice as long in my experience.

    discovery td5 vs 90 200tdi

Ive got a very nice 2004 Td5 Discovery, full leather, all the toys. I really do like it but I still fancy a defender which I know would be less practical, comfortable and sensible. Go figure .....

    New defender tax price

I believe the tax band changed in March 2006 making the last Td5 and Station Wagon 2.4 Tdci Defenders the most expensive to tax. IIRC correctly the utility versions were cheaper £260?. With the move to the 2.2 engine the lower emissions brought it back down again. (It makes a 2007/8 D3 which are...

    What tyre choice?

I would stay with 16's, give you a larger selection than what is available for my 18's. I ran General Grabber AT2s for years and found them to be an excellent tyre, I just recently changed over to their new General Grabber AT, if they last as well as the previous set I'll be well pleased. Also...

    What is this fan for?

There is a small fan in my dashboard, to the right of the steering wheel down beside the headlight height adjustment switch. The only reason I even know its there is because its noisy in operation with the ignition switched on you can hear it running as if it has a worn bearing, making a grating...

About to buy a disco 2 would be lifted slightly can I still tow a caravan?

And a snorkel for your cassette toilet! :) I would think an adjustable tow bar / drop plate would cope easily with the small lift you suggest. My standard D2 on air suspension has genuine LR multi height towbar. Its tow ball is mounted on the 2nd lowest height and allows the van to sit...

    Play in steering

Has the steering damper ever been replaced? If not it could be well past it by now.
