    Aaron's 90 rebuild

Bodywork prep bores me to years literally! But the longer you can stand doing it shows in the final result! Stick at it, it's looking pretty good so far

    Tonks4x4 Defender 6x6 Expedition Camper

Also I have done all the measurements regarding fitting the puma TDCi bulkhead and dash and the mods are minimal to get everything to clear. So as that was not enough of an engineering challenge the decision has been made to stretch the width of the front end of the body work to bring it closer...

    Tonks4x4 Defender 6x6 Expedition Camper

Money is always an issue! Lol I wish I had an endless pot I could have lots more toys :) The reason for v8 is not just through choice but the fact I did not want to make any chassis modifications. I have always been biased towards V8 but have also run diesels 200, 300, TD5 and TD6 over the...

    Tonks4x4 Defender 6x6 Expedition Camper

Today's little instalment... As the original vehicle was a 3.5 V8 on carb's I wanted to give it a little more poke. I did not want to make any modifications to the chassis to keep the DVLA/VOSA happy. So I opted to fit a 3.9 V8 from a late Discovery 1. This was going to be the engine of choice...

    Brake parts makes

You can still order other variants from Britpart. By using a "G" (for OEM quality) at the end of the part number or sometimes "LR" (for Genuine Land Rover parts) The difference on price with these parts is generally quality.

MOT Fail, O/S & N/S steering locking device

Good stuff. May as well replace all 4 on the track rod ends. They are the same nut on your 2 main bolts that retain your bulkhead. And also the nut that retains the top of your rear shocks. So you could swap these as it may make your job easier for future work....

    Electrical help needed

Just check your brake fluid level also, as it may actually be low brake fluid making the light illuminate and not the handbrake at all. As others have already mentioned it would be worth while checking the main earth from the battery to the transfer box. It has a tab bent around the cable half...

Help and advice from the experts

I know all about the running costs of the B7 RS4 and with the issues of the heads getting gunked up etc etc. I also am aware of how fast they are but also how detached from actually driving it that you feel. But a can't conceive how bad it would be to go from driving that to any kind of series...

Well the gearbox and the recon transfer box have both been painted and now they are sat in the chassis to mock up to see what needs to be done to fit a TDCi Puma Bulkhead. Early indications show that there is only minimal alterations required for the sticks on the V8 manual box to fit without...

    My Chassis Repairs for MOT

Another tip for the sunroof cassettes which sometimes gets overlooked. Where the plastic roller blinds hook into the frame at the rear. Put some silicone around these holes too as if you are parked on a gradient facing uphill. The water will seep through these holes before reaching the drains...

Putting vented discs/calipers on non vented axles

If you do go down the route of fitting brand new 110/130 vented calipers with the larger 46mm pistons. Invest in replacing the pistons with stainless ones... Part No. STC201S When the calipers are brand new it's very easy to pop the chrome ones out and the stainless ones in and they give years...

    Tonks4x4 Defender 6x6 Expedition Camper

I was going to upgrade the original 3.5 carb engine to a 3.9 EFi that I have from a late series 1 discovery, however I have now secured a 4.2 Efi from an LSE range rover. Cost wise not including any labour it's currently just under £7k which also includes the purchase of the original vehicle...

    wheel width

They will fit on a 7" rim but the tyre wall will be more ballooned than it should be, giving the risk of the tyre rolling more on a bend and the possibility to roll the tyre off the bead. 265mm = 10.4 Inches wide. It would be safer on an 8" rim Tonks4x4 - The Land Rover Specialist
