So I was legal, because the bloke I had with me passed his test in the 50/60's and had all sorts of bus licences. I know he handed his licence in recently, if he had handed it in before he was with me would I have been legal or illegal?

No idea, mate of mine, doobie on here did it and I remember him saying it wasn't cheap. Plus I think you have to use your own trailer and it has to be a trailer that blocks the view out of your rear window. So a horsebox or summat.

If I was to hit something with 18T of silage, a 4 tonne trailer and a 5 tonne tractor at 28mph I'd do a hell of a lot more damage than I would with 4 tonnes of car and trailer at 50.

If his LR mechanic is going to do the inspection as a side job, try and find out where he works. Let him do the inspection on the side and get everything in writing and signed by him. Book it in for another inspection where he works. Make you sure you stipulate that you don't want Mr So&SO...

FFS! It sounds as if the guy has said "oh, ok" and put the phone down on the DVLA after being informed it's been scrapped. FFS call them, explain what's happened and ask what they suggest as they are the ones in the know.
