Hot day: Brake pedal hard and brakes binding

I think you need to check the free play of the push rod to the master cylinder. There needs to be a 1.5mm (i think) gap which translates to about a 5mm free play on the pedal. This allows excess fluid to return to the master cylinder, but if the gap isnt there then the system pressurizes itself...

    Engine mounts

I've got the OEM mounts from Glencoyne, and they made a massive difference, particularly at idle. Defiantly £20 well spent. I can now use the wing mirrors which were useless before.

    Series IIA LWB Brakes

I've got the one bleed nipple per wheel on mine, but the bleed nipple is on the upper cylinder. The flexi hose joins on to some solid pipe which goes round the back of the axle into the bottom cylinder, then a solid pipe comes out of this and goes round the front into the top cylinder with the...

hand primer will not pump fuel out of fuel filter.

The camshaft lobe presses on the pump mechanism just as the hand lever does. If the cam lobe happens to be pressing the pump down when the engine stops, then pressing the lever will do nothing. Turn the engine over a bit either with the starter or by hand, then try again. Hopefully the lobe will...

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

Well, it is a series, so 'all good' is probably a bit of an exaggeration ;) But its back on the road, I'm just down to the usual niggle list of a few oil drips, electrical gremlins and oddments. Mind you its the MOT next month, so probably shouldn't speak to soon.

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

I managed to fit the new halfshaft of saturday (thanks Andy!) and put the propshaft back on. Went for a test drive and all is well, no puddles of EP90 underneath or anything :D

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

Made some progress this afternoon. I fiddled around for ages trying to knock the bit of broken halfshaft out form the other side of the diff with no success, so ended up taking the diff out (first time I've done this) A couple of minutes and I was able to knock out the broken bit of shaft and...

Cheers, but you're right - mine are 10 / 10 its defiantly a rover axle. I think the sailsbury only became standard on the 109 in the 70s or 80s.

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

I was coming home on sunday when I lost drive pulling away from junction. Luckily it was downhill and there was no traffic, so I managed to coast the last few hundred yards and came to a stop on my own dirveway - probably the most sedate breakdown I've ever had. Anyway, I've bust the passenger...

    2A LWB sliding window locks

No holes to be drilled in the glass, its just pop riveted to the top rail. The pin comes out and stops the window sliding forward. Dead simple. Apologies for the rubbish phone camera. Its pretty dingy in the garage so I hope this makes some sense. This is from the 2nd row doors from my '63 109...

Cheers sib. Seems to have been a bit of an epic battle to get the brakes working properly. Apart for a brief period around Christmas, its been a year since they were working properly. I've checked the joints again this morning and its as dry as a bone. The floors back in and it all loaded up...

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

I've had some time over the bank holiday weekend, and managed to fit the new brake master cylinder, re-plumbed the reservoir and reverse bled the brakes and clutch. I've just taken it out for a test run and clutch and brakes are finally rock solid again. Hoo chuffing ray. I'll do a final check...

    Hertfordshire Lanes?????

I'll be there if I can get to borrow the Mrs car again. I've got the pedal box out and the leaking fluid has stripped a lot of the paintwork off the footwell and bulkhead so I've got a lot of cleaning up and repainting to do before I can start putting stuff back together.
