My 15 year old 110 has passed its MOT. Prior to the test I thought about removing the rack ladder (partially obscures the number plate) and winding back the Bosch VE smoke screw - didn't bother & it turns out I didn't have to. No mention of the ladder & it easily passed the smoke opacity...

I turned up the pre-boost/smoke screw to help me get up the very steep hill that I live on. It makes an enormous difference to the low revs performance when the engines cold.

Cover the surface of the tyre in chalk, then roll forward on some nice dark tarmac & check the resultant tyre chalk print. Adjust pressures & repeat.

If you're consuming/burning lots of semi-synthetic 10-40, it's worth switching to a mineral 15-40. The thicker mineral oil will not escape the rings so easily so will not have to be topped up so often (and its cheaper).

My 110 is shod with bfg at's size 235/85 16. Fronts at 38 psi, rear at 42 - I can't remember the source, but I'm sure these are the recommended pressures from bfg. Edit: if in any doubt do a chalk contact check.

For the last 6 months a '97 110 300tdi with over 160000 miles clock has been my daily 32 mile commute vehicle. Has never let me down, returns a reasonable 30mpgs and never fails to put a smile on my face.

Don't think they are ECUs; the BNC & "D" type connections on the back of the units suggest data comms - they look like GPS / commercial tracker units - any old antenna mounts on the vehicle?

My '97 110 300tdi with Brownchurch roof rack & BFG A/T's will return 28 - 30mpg - surprised its not significantly less than the 90's.

Waste gates bypass exhaust gas on the exhaust (drive) side of the turbo while dump valves dump the compressed air to atmosphere on compressor side of turbo - think that's right. Not all turbos have the dump valve - tends to be only the high pressure performance units.

There's almost a 3" difference in diameter between the 205's & the 235's (235 being the larger). The 205's will look a little lost in the arches if you've got a 2" lift; plus you're going to notice a change in the gearing if you opt for the 205's.

I'm considering fitting one; I'd be interested to know much difference it makes. Don't suppose you've got access to an iphone with the decibel meter app - it would be good to know the before fitting & after db levels in the cab.

Hi James, Went to remove the crimp as you suggested & found it was barely pushed onto the solenoid spade connector (must have knocked it when replacing the lift pump) . After firmly pushing the connector back onto the spade the engine fired up immediately:D Many thanks.
