    blocked radiator??

Not my logic Biglad, just the experience of quite a few people who've posted on the forum. Several posts about people who've had HG failure without overheating, mayo etc. Apparently the TD5 is notorious for failed HG and can still pass compression tests and sniffer tests with a failed HG. I can...

    blocked radiator??

I've looked at quite a few posts on HG failures on the TD5 and it seems to have the symptoms. Overpressurised system, some loss of coolant over time with no signs of external leak, bulge in the top hose near where it connects to the engine, and no water circulating through the radiator. The only...

    blocked radiator??

I'm in two minds about changing the rad now. I had hoped that it was a simple faulty thermostat, but it seems that it is likely to be the HG. Don't want the expense of changing out the rad and pump to then still have to change the HG.

    blocked radiator??

A bit more info - the top hose is hot and the radiator fins around this area are hot, but the bottom hose is cold. Would this be indicating a blown water pump or a blocked radiator? Any ideas?

    blocked radiator??

Today I replaced the thermostat on my TD5 (1999) to try and cure a radiator problem. The radiator is always cold to the touch - only hot near the top pipe connection, so after reading a couple of threads it sounded like a failed thermostat. Thermostat changed and still the same problem. Am I...

Tempted to but this Disco-Please Advise

I agree with ccrdave on the MOT issue. You have to ask yourself if he can get an MOT for just under £30 at halfords (with a discount) and he's selling the vehicle on, why not just put it through the test and then he'd be selling it with over a years MOT. My guess is that he knows somethings iffy...

    viscous fan removal

Precision impact adjusting device worked a treat - now onto the fused solid drain plug and all the other lovely parts to drain the system and change the thermostat!!

    viscous fan removal

Is there any way to remove the vsicous fan without a pulley locking tool. Every time I turn the nut it just turns the pulley, and the only locking tools I can find are £40 plus - is there anything else I can use to lock the pulley?? Thanks Ian Discovery 2 TD5

    TD5 Coolant problem

Thanks - after a quick google search there's a couple of decent sounding garages to check, so hopefully I'll find a cure that won't cost the earth. I'll post again when I have some more answers.

    TD5 Coolant problem

What concerns me the most is that I get the HG replaced and they find the head is cracked - I can't afford that too. Are there any specific things that might indicate a cracked head?? It doesn't overheat, there's never been any problem with hot air coming through the heaters and it doesn't lose...

    TD5 Coolant problem

Could the bulge be caused by a blocked radiator and would that cause the over pressurising - I'm guessing that if the systems under too much pressure the coolant loss could be due to steam escaping from the expansion tank cap. Or would the cause of the over pressuring always be the head...

    TD5 Coolant problem

OK bit more info. I've bled the system and don't get too many bubbles coming out. The fan seems fine, but the radiators aren't hot at all - the hoses are hot, but the radiators are cool to the touch. Also there's quite a bulge that I've just noticed in the top hose.

    TD5 Coolant problem

Yep - checked the oil filler - clean as a whistle and the coolant is nice and clear pink - no bubbles on the return. I was getting some water leaking from the expansion tank cap, so I replaced it, but still have coolant loss and still get the hissing from the cap. I was thinking that it sounded...

When its up to temp its blowing hot air out of the heater - never a problem with the heater

    TD5 Coolant problem

Hi there, I've searched back and forth on coolant and HG threads but still unsure whether to get my disco to a garage to test the HG. Its a v reg TD5 with 140K on the clock. It looses about 150 - 250ml of coolant every 200 - 300 miles. I can't see any obvious leaks. After a long run on popping...

    Veggie power

What the lovely people at Agri fail to mention is that they charge small producers of used cooking oil for collections or don't collect at all because it's not worth their while. This leaves a lot of people who produce 20litres of waste oil a month with no option other than to dispose of it...

    TD5 fuel pump

Its a copy part as I didn't fancy shelling out £300 for a genuine landy one. Has anyone else had problems with non genuine landy fuel pumps - dunno if I can summon the courage to buy a genuine one when the copy ones are a third of the price  Thanks Ian

    TD5 fuel pump

I recently replaced the fuel pump on my disco 2 and the new one works ok, pump wise, but the fuel guage reading seems to be missing about 20 litres of the tank. If I fill up, sure enough the guage goes up, but then gradually drops a bit faster than before. I've checked the mpgs and they're the...

Rear Compressor runs all the time

Thanks - I've just had a look at the fuel pump posts and this could be the problem. Is it more likely to be the pump filter or the fuel filter?
