i would say the cheaper ones that are cast aluminium maybe more prone to cracking than the machined aluminium/steel ones

My missus had that problem once, she'd just ever so slightly knocked it out of Hi gear, check this 1st.

Should be fine for spraying, you'd want an oil/water filter on it though. Check what cfm requirement your air tools use. If it's less that 9.6 then it'll work. Better if compressor is 30% more cfm output or else it'll be constantly running. But if it's only hobby use then that shouldn't matter.

As you can see it's going be tough lifting the shell!! Well all bolts are out so I guess next step is to strip the next one for the few parts I need then I'll be able to bring the shell forwards onto the drive in front of the chassis

i doubt the selector rods are the problem, if they were then i would think gear change would be an issue too.

They sound like the selector rods, they are movable by hand, have you got standard road tyres on?

What wheels/tyres have you got on it?

I've found plans for a series chassis for re aligning it, if there's something similar out there for the disco then that'd probably do the trick.

I'm in the process of stripping 2 discos to make 1 'good' one, so i'll have a spare chassis at some point. Its not that easy to copy off an existing chassis though thats 20 years old, lots of brackets might be out of position. I'm confident i could copy it just not sure how accurate it'd be to...

I would be interested in manufacturing a chassis from scratch, the problem is getting all the dimensions for the fixing points, i wonder if there is engineering drawings out there for the remanufacture of parts?
