Think my BECM has started playing up....any tips re where to look first?

OK new fault for today... they do seem to be appearing faster then I can fix them at the moment :-( I get - 'LHF door open' and 'electrical fault..... check handbook' on the message display - main beam not working - sidelamp warning light on dash always on - no electric windows or...

HEVAC - internal air temp (aspirator)

Thanks Keith, got your email! And also for confirming my suspicions that my cabin sensor reading is out. The fan is running (I can hear it) and there is no fluff, so I am guessing a new sensor is in order..... Island 4x4 don't list them - anybody got any ideas where to get one, other than L/R...

HEVAC - internal air temp (aspirator)

Hi, I think my Nanocom may have thrown up another issue with my Hevac - the internal cabin temp reading seems very high, about 25degC, compared with how it feels.... and I think this is why it is not heating the car up as quickly as it should (as the Hevac thinks the car is already warmer than...

    HEVAC fault logging.... Nanocom....

Me too, and it is reading/clearing the faults fine now - but unfortunately it still seems to struggle a bit talking to the HEVAC ECU, anybody else finding this? Takes me several attempts to get it to work... The new instrument display is good.... as is the 180 rotation, with mine being LHD ;-)...

    P38 Certificate of Conformity

Hi - first of all try FIAT UK for the CofC, may be cheaper or even free. My Subaru CofC was free from Subaru UK, as were the BMW motorcycle ones and the one for my KTM. Lotus charged me around £50. Land Rover France - best part of €200!! I have had no problem with the prefecture in Perigueux...

Well well well not impressed so far :(

Exactly. What baffles me is why this obvious test is taking these garages more than 5 mins to do!! Cheers Jerry

Well well well not impressed so far :(

Sounds like the usual defective alternator misdiagnosed as poor battery problem to me.... it is much easier for the dealer to replace the battery than the alternator and it gets the car sold and out of the door.... It's easy enough to get the alternator and battery checked, ideally by the garage...

Another difficult starting thread - sorry - please bear with me....

Just for the record, it was -10degC this morning, the glowplug light came on for about 5 secs only, and the car started straight away - a good cold start test I think! :-)

    Diesel Glow Plugs

You need to remove the inlet manifold, so remember to get 6 new inlet manifold gaskets, but I removed all 6 glowplugs without removing the injector pipework. I would reckon on a couple of hours start to finish assuming you can also do the work without removing injector pipes. This could be one...

    HEVAC fault logging.... Nanocom....

I'm a long way from losing faith! All of the other systems seems to work perfectly as far as I can tell, and the fact you can do everything with no laptop, and even when on the move, is amazing. I have no regrets about my purchase. It is just a shame that the initial reason for purchase - to...

    HEVAC fault logging.... Nanocom....

Does sound like I need to wait for the update then - and that is what nanocom say too! I did some investigating today - drove with the Nanocom connected and am getting crazy readings for both external air temp and heater matrix temp - sometimes the matrix reading goes sensible - the ext temp...

Hello - Site (and RR) Newbie with P38 problems!

Need to find out what fried the relay, and take it from there - it is not impossible that the other issues are related to this (perhaps because of voltage drop due to the large current drain that is frying the relay!). My HEVAC display went very dim when the battery was failing. I would check...

    HEVAC fault logging.... Nanocom....

Hi, I am getting the book symbol up on the HEVAC intermittently, it does seem to clear itself rather than needing to be reset. I have hooked up the Nanocom but it is reporting no logged faults. However I know there are some issues with Nanocom talking to HEVAC which will hopefully be resolved...

613 miles on diesel P38 - can you do better?

Mine averaging around 25mpg, no way I could get it up to 30 :-( Cheers, Jerry

    P38 Nanocom

Just had a bit of play with mine this afternoon, seems to work well, v. impressed. The only issue I have with it is failure to talk reliably with the HEVAC - main problem is it doesn't always detect the key presses (which I know are working because the HEVAC does respond to them!). Maybe 1.06...

Hello - Site (and RR) Newbie with P38 problems!

Is there a way of testing it in-situ, or is it a case of replace and hope....? Cheers Jerry

Hello - Site (and RR) Newbie with P38 problems!

Doh! Despite a whole paragraph describing issues with his auto box I still had it in my head that it was a manual.... must stop myself posting before I have had enough coffee......

    brakes

Yes, a very slight click (I can feel it, not hear it) but only the first time I apply the brakes after the car has been standing for a while, otherwise brakes feel great. Have you just been living with the problem since July? Has it got any worse?? Also, rereading your original post - do you...

Hello - Site (and RR) Newbie with P38 problems!

Regarding the 'death wander' - mine improved a lot just be ensuring the tyre pressures are good (as you have fitted new tyres I am sure you have done this) and then improved considerably again when I changed the front shock absorbers - one was leaking slightly which caused an MOT failure. These...

    brakes

Did you ever fix this? Mine does the same thing - first use of the brake in the morning, pedal travel is significantly more than usual. Then works perfectly every time after that... Cheers, Jerry
