How quickly can a dodgy alarm receiver drain the battery?

First things first I guess - Have you checked the other end of the blue wire to make sure it is properly connected to the window and that there are no breaks in the wires in the window itself? It does sound like yours is behaving as though antenna is always disconnected... Cheers Jerry

How quickly can a dodgy alarm receiver drain the battery?

OK just been out to do a quick test on the P38 - as much out of curiosity as anything Used the Nanocom to clear RF buffer Showed no code received Used the RF remote fob Showed code received Cleared again no code etc etc So it does seem to reliably store and report any valid Fob codes...

How quickly can a dodgy alarm receiver drain the battery?

Sorry Mozz to be thick, but what do you mean by series 3? 3rd version of the P38 device, or is it from a Disco3 for example? Cheers, Jerry

    just chipped my p38 dse!

any dyno charts to show bhp/torque improvements? Please also do a brim-brim mpg test for us, see what that throws up :-) Cheers, Jerry

    Which Fault reader/Clearer

Another vote for the Nanocom, around £400 for multi vehicle (but locked to vehicle type - so in my case, diesel P38s). I really like the fact it is compact, so can be kept in the car all the time. Has managed to do everything I've wanted so far. Only negative is that the P38 software is new and...

How quickly can a dodgy alarm receiver drain the battery?

Ah I see, so could be fine for ages and not log any lock request, and then cook the locks by going beserk for a few minutes. That is a much harder issue to deal with! Those leaking oil pipes and PAS pipes may have to wait then - the price for OEM replacement from Island is around £150+VAT...

How quickly can a dodgy alarm receiver drain the battery?

Just looked at the Nanocom documentation, in the BECM module, it has this: --- RF Memory (Automatically reads the RF Memory) Clear RF memory This resets the memory, which stays reset until a valid fob code has been received by the BECM. These then stay set until reset with this function...

How quickly can a dodgy alarm receiver drain the battery?

Yup I've ready it :-) And Keith, thanks for confirming that 30mA is OK. If the RF unit is constantly sending lock, is there any way of detecting this, other than waiting for the locks to fail?? Does it cause the locks to make a noise? I'll be getting a new RF unit soon but would be happier...

Just done all 4 shocks and rear airbags...

Excellent :-) And that tyre looks, erm, serious (and noisy!) :-)

How quickly can a dodgy alarm receiver drain the battery?

Thanks guys, it seems the RF problem can flatten the battery that quickly (and completely!) then. A few tests just done: current drain 2ish Amps for a few seconds after unlocking, then around 0.6A for a few minutes then down to 0.03A (30mA), presumably this is when the BECM has gone to sleep...

How quickly can a dodgy alarm receiver drain the battery?

Went to start the P38 yesterday and the battery was flat - and I mean TOTALLY flat, not even a glimmer from the dash lights, nothing. As though it was disconnected. I hadn't used the car for about 3 days. Could the dodgy RF receiver issue (keeping the BECM awake) cause this, or would it take...

What mpg do you get at 70 mph cruise on

Well, I do wonder - the mpg reading on my Subaru is always within 1 mpg of the actual mpg (brim to brim measurement) when running on LPG.... spooky ;-) I'm guessing it's similar psychic behaviour to that which enables the trip computer to know about aftermarket performance chips and tell the...

What mpg do you get at 70 mph cruise on

On a reasonably modern multipoint injection LPG system, the gas injectors are driven from the signal usually sent to the petrol injectors, which is intercepted by the LPG ECU which applies some modification to inj timing to get the correct readings from the Lambda sensors. Because the Petrol...

    No Wipers, Windows, HEVAC etc

A long shot perhaps as I don't know exactly what is working and what isn't in your car, but mine had a similar issue where the BECM seemed to 'crash' and go into a fail-safe mode. No windows, HEVAC, main beam, etc. It wouldn't talk to Nanocom either. I disconnected the battery waited for an hour...

    mpg on p38 deisel

I'm averaging 25mpg with short journeys/A-road trips/a bit of towing. No motorway work at all. Last time I did a motorway run it was a little under 30mpg cruising at around 70mph. Mine is a manual btw. No powerbox or anything like that. Actual mpg not trip display (I don't have a trip computer...

    DHSE Chip vs Gearbox

What he says :-) Another illustration - your trusty torque wrench can apply lots of torque to a bolt or nut without it actually moving at all. Remember when you retorqued your cylinder head bolts after replacing the head gasket? LOTS of torque but for those bolts already tight enough, NO...

    DHSE Chip vs Gearbox

If that power curve is real, I want one of those chips..... Has anybody ever had a chipped 2.5DT P38 on a dyno, ideally with before and after runs? Cheers, Jerry

    DHSE Chip vs Gearbox

I love the door analogy - it's great! But torque is not a measure of how much something will turn with a given force.... torque is in fact just a rotational measure of force. If there is no movement, then you can have huge torque with no power. Power is required to move the object (accelerate it...

    DHSE Chip vs Gearbox

TCubed you are confusing power and torque ;-) The V8 makes more power (so is faster) but at higher revs (so no more torque than the diesel) Cheers Jerry
