thought water pump had gone but not

Hi The fact that 3 of the systems that run from the auxiliary belt signalled a problem (water pump, pas and alternator) suggests that belt must be slipping. The fact that the noise continues for a second suggests that something is continuing to spin after the belt has stopped, again suggesting...

2.5 diesel warm starting - I hesitate to raise this issue again, but....

I did wonder the same Keith, although I have recently checked all the connectors under the fusebox and everything seems to be in good condition, no corrosion. I have not however removed the fuse box completely to check its innards..... if problem persists that will need to be the next thing I...

2.5 diesel warm starting - I hesitate to raise this issue again, but....

Thanks guys, sound advice, just wanted to set it as per the book as a known starting point the first time around. I did make absolutely sure the last movement was always towards the engine btw, as per RAVE. Got in the car today, looking forward to driving it after all the work I've done -...

2.5 diesel warm starting - I hesitate to raise this issue again, but....

Hi all, finally got around to resetting the injection pump timing having gathered together the various tools required. Only been on one run so far but first signs are that hot starting is better, but it still cranks for 4-5 secs, so hardly 'on the button'. The timing was definitely out - 0.7mm...

DSE - Starting problems - Probably multiple

Def worth ordering 6 new gaskets if you have the alloy manifold - I took my manifold off to do the glowplugs a while back and all 6 gaskets broke up, none were reusable. They are so cheap it's worth having them to hand just in case. Cheers Jerry

DSE - Starting problems - Probably multiple

OK my guess is glowplugs This should fix the cold starting issue, hot is most likely injection timing out. But either way follow the tech bulletin and let us know the outcome.... it's easy to do. Cheers Jerry

DSE - Starting problems - Probably multiple

Hi You really need to spend a bit more time searching on here. You will find reference to a land rover technical bulletin relating to poor starting which amongst other things tells you how to check the in tank pump. It is also easy to check if the glowplugs are getting 12V with your meter...

    What is clockwise?!?

    Many thanks! Cheers Jerry

    What is clockwise?!?

Hi, feel a bit dumb asking this, but can't find the definition in RAVE When RAVE says turn the engine clockwise; is this clockwise looking at the front of the engine, or clockwise as if sitting in the driver's seat? I have found the definition for left and right in RAVE, but not clockwise...

Newer Range Rover: would you go for RRS or FFRR?

I'll probably get banned for saying this, but - does anybody agree that the spiritual successor to the P38 is really the Disco III? The P38 although very comfortable and well equipped for it's day was nevertheless still quite an understated vehicle, like the original classic. Then it all went...

Turbo Whistle on DSE (NON EGR)

Too curious and it is lunchtime so I just looked it up - you are right, there is an exhaust block version too :-) Not sure what happens to the exhaust gases when it is activated though, the article I read implied that they are stored, presumably in some kind of compressed air tank?! (the system...

Turbo Whistle on DSE (NON EGR)

Well it was a day late.... another failed attempt at humour on my part ;-) Resuming normal (vaguely serious) mode: I though a Jake Brake works by forcing the exhaust valves to remain closed, on the exhaust stroke, i.e. it is a fairly complex revision of the cylinder head mech. Shouldn't cause...

Turbo Whistle on DSE (NON EGR)

Interesting thread. I am thinking of adding a dump valve to my 2.5DT, partly to make it faster (I can have more boost more of the time) but also to make it sound better when changing gear. Thinking about it, although there is no throttle as such, I could either use the throttle pot % reading...

Turbo Whistle on DSE (NON EGR)

If you can get it onto diagnostics (Nanocom, faultmate etc.) then you can find out what the boost level is. Trouble is, I am not sure what 'good' is, other than boost and atmos pressure values should read almost the same when engine stopped or at idle, which is a useful basic check of the...

Fitting cruise control to a diesel

Keen to fit cruise to my lowly DT too - in fact it is the only option I really miss - is a cruise control ECU required with the diesel as well, or does the EDC unit do all the work? I would have thought the latter - maybe a trip to the RAVE wiring diagrams is in order! chort - I for one would...

Newer Range Rover: would you go for RRS or FFRR?

Travel in a land cruiser and then a p38 of similar age. No contest the p38 is a far more comfortable vehicle. In fact my p38 is far more refined and comfortable than my friends 10 year younger mitsubishi shogun. P38 is not as reliable, sure, in fact the reliability is pretty hopeless (esp the...

in tank fuel pump faulty or not?p38diesel

Look for the post from SaintV8 in the thread below - there is a L/R technical bulletin which tells you how to check the in tank pump. It is very easy to do. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/2-5-diesel-warm-starting-i-hesitate-raise-issue-again-but-168397-2.html Hope that helps..... In thank...

Good advice Mayo, thanks. I couldn't figure out the routing so did look it up on RAVE. My tensioner has no spring in it at all. Cheers Jerry

    Auxiliary belt tensioner - help!

update - parts arrived from Island 4x4 today (excellent service; thanks!). Put new tensioner bracket and pulleys, new belts. Then when I come to tension the belts... discover that the tensioner/damper unit is not working (it appears to be stuck - it did not spring back after I levered the...

    A/C Condensers - easy fix?

Having recently removed mine - I think all you will need to do is remove front grill and then slam panel (15 mins tops) then you can see the condensor and see if it is leaking. If it is removal is just another few bolts. With a long extension bar on a 3/8 drive socket the lower two bolts can...
